Review: Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse #1) by Charlaine Harris

4 Stars

In this first installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series we are introduced to our main character, Sookie Stackhouse. Sookie is a waitress in a bar, living in a small town in Louisiana, Bon Temps, there is absolutely nothing extraordinary about her life, except for her "disability". She can read minds.

Now, I thought that was funny, saying that reading minds is a disability. But other than her "disability" there wasn't really anything exciting about here life until Bill Compton, Vampire, walked into the bar one night. Her vampire, the one she has supposedly been waiting for. How she knew he was coning, any vampire for that matter, into the bar one day (night!) remains a mystery. Maybe she has a little "Precognition disability" in her somewhere as well.

But seriously, I really did love this book it was exciting and interesting. Especially reading it after I had watched the TV show, True Blood, which now I have to say, I didn't like as much as the book. But even knowing how the book was going to end (having watched the show) it, to me, didn't take away any of the mystery. I mean sure I knew who did it, but I didn't know every twist and turn. I almost gave it 3 stars after re-reading it but I have to say it deserves more than 3 and I can't give it the 3.5 I think it should have so 4 it is.
