Review: The Laughing Corpse (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #2) by Laurell K. Hamilton

4 Stars
Pages: 304
Read Count: 3
In this second installment of the Anita Black, Vampire Hunter series Anita is offered a million dollars by a man named Harold Gaynor to raise a zombie. A zombie that just happens to be 283 years old, which means the only death 'big enough' would leave her committing human sacrifice.

This is only the beginning of Anita's trouble when a call from Detective Sargent Storr, head of the Regional Preternatural Investigation Team or R-I-P-T, brings her into a gruesome murder scene. Anita is on the retain and is often called in to help identify what monster may have done what. People are dying and Anita has to find out what did it and where it is before it strikes again. This brings her into contact with Dominga Salvador, the voodoo priest for the entire Midwest.

I really liked this second installment by Laurell K. Hamilton, this is my third reading of the book and I am still not put off by knowing how it will end. I think this book has something the first didn't maybe it was just we know more now after having read the first so there is as much info and more plot.

I have read that some people consider this book horror it does have some pretty violent scenes in it and is pretty detailed but I do not know if I would really consider it horror so, I guess that is a mater of opinion.

One thing I do wish was that we got a little more of Jean-Claude, I know the main point of the book is Anita, the series does have her name in it, but still who doesn't want a little more of him? Especially since all the drama going on between the two is quite interesting and makes one wonder who will come out the winner in the end.

I would recommend this book to all paranormal lovers.
