Review: The New Mars: The City Dome by J.L. Manning

2 Stars
Series: The New Mars
Author: J.L. Manning
Pages: 244

This book started out very....slow for me I suppose, especially at the beginning before I got to the actual characters. When things was being explained, it was interest to a certain degree but I felt like I was in history class. History wasn't my favorite subject. So that did make me doubt the book, but I pushed through and when I got to the first set of characters, we meet a variety of people, I started to get a little more into the book abet it was still kind of slow-paced.

One thing I found interesting was to see how the character(s), some who had just got to Mars settled in a little and how they acted toward the new world.

This is not the first book in the series? Saga? Having not read the first two I can't really compare them. With that being said I might advise you to read the other two first, again I have no idea about them but it might help things along with this book.

I found Mars to be very interesting once past the beginning, and it was very easy to envision the things the author describes, The Bush Mall, Pod Racing, Science Dome, ect. It also does make me wonder if sometime in the far off future could something like this really happen. Could we one day have the option of living on Mars? What would it be like? How would we get there, who would go there and why? These are very pertinent questions and I think the author does a good job of giving his idea of it.

Now as I said I did find the book interesting, so why only two stars? Because though the book was interesting to a certain degree I did find some things that bothered me with the book. one that bothered me the most was everyone rolled their eyes a lot. Not that is eye rolling is necessarily a bad thing but it felt that it was way over done in this book to the point of annoyance. Another was people looking 'wide eyed' at other people, small things yes but they added up through the book. And lastly and most important was the characters didn't feel ..real to me. Like I couldn't really connect to them in any way, that may not be so for everyone though. So I would recommend you give it a try, especially if you love books with the subject of Mars and maybe some science fiction/futuristic book readers.

*I received an Ebook copy of this book for free to review from the author.
