Review: Shock Wave (Dirk Pitt #13) by Clive Cussler

4 Stars
Series: Dirk Pitt
Pages: 592
In this thirteenth novel by Clive Cussler, we first see Dirk Pitt rescuing Maeve Fletcher. A descendant of Betsy Fletcher and Jess Dorsett; two of the few survivors of a British clipper ship which was caring prisoners to Australia's penal colony and was crushed in a typhoon. After the few wash up on shore of a deserted island Betsy and Jess discover a large amount of diamonds.

Now an unknown source is killing marine life as well as humans. Dirk traces it back to owner of the second largest diamond empire and Maeve's father, Author Dorsett and her two sisters.

This is what the book Shock Wave is based around. Of course there is a lot more to it than that, but we learn a lot of background info at the beginning of the book, like in most of the Dirk Pitt novels.

I really liked this book, and I was sorry it took me so long to get to it. I do have to say though, that I loved it in a different way than the other Dirk Pitt novels if that makes sense.

Shock Wave, though as mysterious, action/adventure and suspense filled as the other really got me on an emotional level for Dirk that I have to say I didn't know was missing before now.

The book is one I did not want to put down and is probably me second favorite in the Dirk Pitt series so far.

The reason I only gave the book four stars though is because I was a little wary of what was going to happen Dirk wise. As Dirk is getting older and that is mentioned in the book, so I think that did make me pause for a minute wondering how the book would play out.

I would recommend for all Clive Cussler and Dirk Pitt fans, as well as readers of action-adventure.
