Review: Danse Macabre (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #14) by Laurell K. Hamilton

3 Stars
Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 576
Read Count: 3

In this Anita Blake novel, Anita is facing a scare that can make any woman fret--big heaping vampire hunter or not.

Master vampires are coming to St. Louis and bringing pomme de sang's for Anita to choose from.

Does is sound weird to say I liked this one but not? I mean it was a good novel I suppose and I did enjoy it, there are many sex scenes, nice plot, et cetera. So why then do I feel kind of 'eh' about it at the same time?

One reason I didn't love this book would have to be because Anita got on my nerves in this book. She has annoyed me before but it has never really bothered me until now. Maybe I am just reaching a breaking point? I wanted to yell at her because she was acting so stubborn through-out most the novel. Especially concerning her needing new food for the ardeur.

Richard is in this novel and though he annoyed me as well with his, 'Richardness' is the only way I can put it, I actually think he had a reason to be mad unlike Anita. I still love Richard as a character but I do not think he has had any real character progression through-out the last few books, one minute it seems like he is then the next he falls back into old patterns. I look forward to when the progress he makes will actually stick with him for more than a few chapters.

One thing I did like would have to be the abundance of sex scenes. Some people did not like the Anita Blake novels when she started having lots of sex, with different partners, but to be truthful it never really bothered me and I think it gave the series some flair it might have otherwise lacked in these last few novels.

As with the last, I think I would recommend this book to anyone who had read and liked the last couple of books.
