Review: Hit List (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter #20) by Laurell K. Hamilton

4 Stars
Hardcover
Pages: 320
Book Description from Goodreads
"The #1 New York Times bestselling Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series continues!

A serial killer is hunting the Pacific Northwest, murdering victims in a gruesome and spectacular way. The local police suspect "monsters" are involved, and have called in Anita Blake and Edward, U.S. Marshals who really know their monsters, to catch the killer."
(I really did not think I would do a good job describing this book, so I am cheating and using the description from Goodreads.)
The first thing one really has to mention about this book is, of course, the cover. And how could we not? I have been wondering and speculating on it since it was first revealed and now--having read the book--I still have no idea what to make of it. But it does catch ones eye and make them well speculate about what it could be about.

Next we have to go into the plot a little so watch out for spoilers here on out!

As is mentioned above Anita and Edward are working together once again on a murder case only this time they are pretty sure of who is doing the murdering; The Harlequin.

The Mother of All Darkness's, servants, who we all thought died until the last book when we found that only her body was destroyed but her 'spirit' lived on and she wants a new body; Anita's.

I really liked this one and I was SO glad I did. As I have been re-reading the series and thought by the time I got to this twentieth installment I was going to have too high of expectations for it; not so though.

I loved seeing Nicky, who we met in Flirt and Domino and other men from Anita's life again. No Richard though, which after Bullet was something I didn't know quite how to respond too but at the same time have no idea how he might have been incorporated in this novel, so it was probably for the best.

Edward was of course great to see, it was also great to compare the old Edward to this new and slightly more open Edward. We also get Olaf--creepy as always and Bernardo, who was well; Bernardo.

All together the plot is pretty fast paced as we lean more and more of the murders the Marshals--new laws come into play as well.

The only concern I have for now is for the future; what will happen now? We was left with some pretty big stuff to go on for future books not only in Hit List but in Bullet as well that was not picked up in this novel.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who had read and loved the last few books.
