Review: Flood Tide (Dirk Pitt #14) by Clive Cussler

4 Stars
Flood Tide
Series: Dirk Pitt
Author: Clive Cussler
Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 560
In this fourteenth installment of Clive Cussler’s Dirk Pitt series, Dirk is once again preventing disaster after disaster.

The 'bad guy' of this novel is a crazy billionaire named Qin Shang, who is suspected of using his shipping business of smuggling Chinese people into the United States and other states around the world and then using them for slave labor or worse.

He has a plan to make his business even more profitable, and if Pitt doesn’t stop him, his plan will wreck untold havoc on Louisiana and mar America’s landscape forever.

Also we have, of course, treasure. Has all the Dirk Pitt books had some kind of treasure related to them? But then again as Special Projects Director of NUMA, I can see how this plays into the novel and would probably be disappointed if I didn’t get to read about it.

We also get introduced to a new lady in this novel, Julia Lee; an undercover agent with the International Affairs Investigation Division of the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services; who poses as an immigrant to gather information on Qin Shang and his smuggling operation.

Lee is also a love interest in this novel and made me wonder if she might be in the next novel also or if Cussler will continue his pattern of one woman per-book. The only one that has been in more than one, I think; I could be wrong, was the US senator.

The novel though 500+ pages was pretty fast paced and very attention grabbing. It was filled with scenes of, action, adventure, suspense and more. I look forward to the next novel in the series, Atlantis Found.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for a good action/adventure novel.
