Nicole Jaffe’ Interview & Giveaway!

Please welcome, Nicole Jaffe’ author of the short story, Magical Dreams.

Holly: Hi Nicole! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Nicole Jaffe’: I am twenty-seven years old and I currently work from home as a freelance writer. It does not make me much money but I love my work and I love helping people. I was also born with Cerebral Palsy and I am in a wheelchair. I am also gay and not legally but happily married to my partner of three years. Both of these aspects of my life have made my life challenging but never boring. I feel that these two aspects of my life have made me more open and accepting of differences and made it possible for me to look at the world and see things in a different way than most people. I feel that every since I was born, I have taken the path less traveled.

Holly: How and when did you first start writing?

Nicole Jaffe’: My physical limitations and special needs are probably how I got started writing. Sometimes I could not play outside like other kids or do things the way that most kids my age did. This is why when I was younger, I would sit in front of the computer and create characters that could do all the things I dreamed about and through the characters I could have these experiences as well. It was very exciting for me to create worlds where anything is possible and I loved it from the start.

Holly: Have you written anything before the publishing of your short story, Magical Dreams?

Nicole Jaffe’: When I was younger, I used to write short stories all the time, however, none of them were actually published and they are probably lost in my parents’ house somewhere. However, in 2010, I did self-publish a book of poems titled: Lost in My Head. This poetry book is kind of my biography about how I struggled through different aspects of my life and got to where I am today.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about Magical Dreams?

Nicole Jaffe’: Magical Dreams was created after I discovered the religion Wicca and found it to be an inspiring and very interesting way of life. I found that there were many negative views of Wicca and Paganism out there because many people do not know what it actually is. Even though I have just started my journey discovering Wicca and my place within it and I am by no means an expert, I wanted to create a story that would interest people and maybe shed more of a positive light on the religion. I also wanted to combine my love for fiction and the paranormal and touch just a bit on GLBT issues. I hope my book accomplished these goals.

Holly: Which came first, the plot or the characters?

Nicole Jaffe’: This question is a tricky one to answer. I would have to say a bit of both. I thought up the characters and part of the story then I had a bit of writers’ block and came back to the story a few months later when more of the plot and character development came to me after reading some of my favorite novels.

Holly: Where can we purchase it?

Nicole Jaffe’: Magical Dreams can be purchased as a print version through's/ bookstore. It can also be purchased as an e-book through the Amazon Kindle store.

Holly: Do you have plans for any future short stories or maybe even a novel?

Nicole Jaffe’: I would love to write a novel since right now mostly all I can manage to write are short stories. I actually want to write a sequel to Magical Dreams because I want to explore the characters more and see where the story will take them. I also want to write another book of poems someday and perhaps an autobiography or a book on GLBT issues and challenges.

Holly: Are you perhaps working on anything at the moment?

Nicole Jaffe’: At the moment I have many ideas in my head about a sequel to Magical Dreams and where I would like to see the characters go. However, I have found that sometimes my characters will lead me on their journey and I will just be along for the ride. It’s all part of the writing process, I suppose. Also, as a new writer, I am looking into taking some creative writing courses to help make my writing even better and more enjoyable for my readers.

Holly: Do you think you will continue focusing on paranormal or maybe try contemporary or even historical one day?

Nicole Jaffe’: I really enjoy paranormal and fantasy but I am interested and influenced by many topics, so I think writing a contemporary or historical story could be in my future. I also plan to incorporate these elements and topics into future stories and books while still writing about the paranormal and fantasy. I will have to see where my inspiration leads me.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Nicole Jaffe’: I just want to say that as a new writer, I hope you will be patient with me as I learn new ways to develop my characters and my stories to make them even better for you. I also hope that you can relate to my stories and characters in some way and grow to love them as much as I do.

Holly: Is there one you place you would love more than anything to go in the world? If so where and why?

Nicole Jaffe’: One place, now that is tricky too, I have never been good at making decisions. When I was younger I wanted to visit Australia because it was beautiful in pictures and had a different culture, then I discovered it was a really long flight to get there and kind of changed my mind, lol. Now, I would like to go anywhere that would allow me to rent a cabin in the woods and just get away from everything for a while and enjoy some peace and quiet. I think it would be very inspiring and good for my writing as well.

I am a new self-published author with one book, a short story Magical Dreams published in October 2011. I am in a wheelchair because I was born with a physical disability. I just want to share my story and life experiences with the world in the hope that someone can relate and be touched by my written word and feelings. I am 27 and live in Cincinnati, Ohio with my wife.

When I am not writing short stories, I work as a freelance writer from home writing blogs and articles for people to help them promote their businesses. I also love to read and I am currently addicted to young adult fantasy or paranormal. My favorite foods are Italian and Chinese. In my free time, I love to watch movies, play games online, or spend quality time with family and friends.
