Review: Masters at Arms (Rescue Me #1) by Kallypso Masters

4 Stars
Series: Rescue Me
Pages: 106
Book Description from Goodreads
Masters at Arms begins the journey of three men, each on a quest for honor, acceptance, and to ease his unspoken pain. Their paths cross at one of the darkest points in their lives. As they try to come to terms with the aftermath--forging an unbreakable bond--will they ever truly become masters of their own fates? Or would fate become masters of them? (Book One in the Rescue Me series about the men who own the Masters at Arms BDSM Club.) AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is an introduction to the series, but does NOT have the Happily Ever After endings that will come in the next three romance novels in the series. Being the back-story that usually is not told in "real time," there are some intense themes in the book, including death of a spouse, incest, torture, a battle scene, and amputation.

I had this lovely book cover and description featured on my Wednesday WDYT feature just this week, where I had very positive comments about it and then amazingly one from the author telling about a code to get it for free! I immediately went and got it and started reading soon after and let me tell you; if one did not have to sleep or I had not stated so late at night I have no doubt I would have finished it in one sitting!

This book is a prequel to the following three books that follow. In it we meet, Master Adam and Karla. Their book, Nobody's Hero, coming out this month! We get a ton of back ground info for them, which I admit I loved and though I know novels give background info on main characters, this was different. We got to live the past with them while it was the present--if that makes sense. There was no switching from present to past, which can sometimes be confusing or/and tiring.

We also meet Master Marc, whose book, Nobody's Angel came out in September. As above we get Master Marc’s back ground info to but the author still manages to give us very little to go on for his book. With Master Adam we have met whom his book will contain, but Master Marc...I do not think we have though I will be sure to read it and let you know! ;)

Lastly, but in no way least, we meet Master Dami├ín and Savannah (Savi). Ah their story, mostly Savannah's was very emotional to me and made me ache for her, the things she has been through in the past, and how we are left with things make me more than curious about her and what will happen between now and their book. I do wonder if we will pick up where we left off in the book, will when I start the next novel, or even the two after, pick up from right where I left off in the prequel that was about said characters. Or will time have passed and we meet back up with them following the time line of, prequel, first book and so on.

The structure of the book is very neat I thought, we have sections for each character(s) and as we meet all three Master’s we then have sections of them meeting and forming a bond that leads to them forming the club.

Altogether, I do not think I could have asked for more; it was wonderfully written giving us their backgrounds, while giving us a little to go on in the coming book, it was erotic, sad, exciting, tense, and suspenseful and so much more.

This one is going on the list.

I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a good adult/military BDSM read.
