3 Stars
The Peaks

Author: Martin Chu Shui
Genre: Young Adult, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Adventure
Ebook

Book Description from Goodreads
"Powerful and invincible they ride across vast desert landscapes, hunting and slaying vampires under the cover of night. Jian Ke, the sword guests are more famous than ever! Admired by millions of TV fans around the nation as they pursue a life of action and adventure: a splendid tapestry depicting Liz, Henry and Sue at the top of their game. With her paintbrush in hand Liz is prepared to take on a hoard of vampires, an army of aliens and even her first kiss from the man of her dreams, Sue’s handsome older brother.

Life couldn’t be better until everything falls to pieces.

Liz must now face her biggest fears as the world she once knew slips through her fingers. No-one will be left untouched by the chaos which ensues. Armed only with her knowledge of Tai Chi, Liz must fight for what she has lost and begin the climb of her life. An unforgettable journey will take her to the Peaks.

“Dragon’s Pupils – The Peaks,” the second instalment of the Dragon’s Pupils series, follows the drama of Liz’s life as she fights monsters, wields magic and longs for forbidden love. It is a journey which will take you through Australia’s most beautiful landscapes and ultimately witnesses the transformation Liz undergoes, as she rises to meet her latest challenge."

In the authors second novel of his Dragon Pupils series we once again pick up with Liz her brother Henry and their friend Sue and their adventures as the legendary Jian Ke, the sword guests.

Everything is going smooth for them, even with the monsters they must fight and the USB still active until one slip and everything is gone from them—except for the monsters, USB of course still wrecking havoc on all.

You all may remember a while back when I reviewed the first novel of this series, here, for the author.

I enjoyed this novel more than the last I think the authors writing has grown in a way—and thinking on it I do tend to like second books more than the first usually as in the first novel you have so much information to me the second one is more enjoyable most of the time.

In The Peaks we focus mostly on Liz though we do still get a good bit of Henry and Sue—mostly we are in Liz’s point-of-view and see her emotional journey with her love whom we met in the first novel, Sue’s brother. Though not to exclude Sue and Henry: we get some relationship parts in the novel with them as well, so with the relationships it is definitely aimed at an older target group of teens but something I think that older or younger may enjoy too.

What I think I liked best about this novel is that I felt it was a lot easier for me to get lost in the plot and action of the characters which I had slight difficulties with in the first novel.

I would recommend this novel to anyone looking for a good read, but highly recommend picking up the first novel before diving into this one.

*I received an Ebook copy of this book for free to review from the author. I beta read this novel for the author as well all opinions however are 100% my own and honest.
