Interview with S.R. Johannes!

Please help me welcome author S.R. Johannes!!

S.R. Johannes is author of Untraceable (The Nature of Grace, #1) and new novel On The Bright Side which has been called “Clever and charming…” by Suzanne Young, author of A Need So Beautiful and “…hilarious and heart-warming..” by Kristin O’Donnell Tubb, author of Selling Hope.

Holly: Hi, S.R! Will you tell us a little bit about yourself?

S.R. Johannes: I am the author of Untraceable and On The Bright Side. I own my own marketing business and run the marketing blog for authors called Market My Word

Holly: Who or what influenced your writing once you began?

S.R. Johannes: I’ve always had a huge imagination. But didn’t start writing until I had my daughter. I started writing a fairy book for her and then kept writing. I love writing thrillers and adventure because that is what I love reading. I grew up on James Patterson and Iris Johansen. So those thriller elements drive my books.

Holly: Untraceable is the first book in your series called The Nature of Grace. Can you tell us a little bit about this novel?

S.R. Johannes: In a nutshell, this is a book about a nature girl looking for her father but on the way uncovers a crime against nature that threatens everything she loves.

Holly: What was your inspiration for this novel, or the series in general?

S.R. Johannes: I am a huge advocate for nature and animals. My hubby hikes so deep into the woods he always said people could do anything out there and no one would know. The first time I visited Cherokee, NC, I saw the bear pits. They bothered me so much that I put those two concepts together. If this book could shed light on those bear pits and help release those bears –that would be my inspiration.

Holly: Your new novel, On The Bright Side, which came out on January 31st and has received great praise so far from author Addison Moore and Suzanne Young to name a couple. Can you tell us a little about the plot and character(s)?

S.R. Johannes: Gabby is a disgruntled tween angel who has just been assigned to protect her school nemesis and ex-beffie. Problem is her ex-beffie is dating Gabby’s longtime crush. Instead of protecting Angela, Gabby pranks her (since when is sticking toilet paper to her shoe or spinach in her teeth a sin?) Soon, Gabby gets out of control and is put on probation by her SKYAgent, who has anger management issues of his own. Determined to right her wrongs, Gabby steals an ancient artifact that allows her to return to Earth for just one day. Without knowing, she kicks off a series of events and learns what can happen when you hate someone to death.

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

S.R. Johannes: When it was almost bought by a publisher – they asked me to create a synopsis for 2 additional books. So I have those but at this time I’m not sure where I will go with it.

Holly: Can you tell us some of your latest news, what are your plans for 2012?

S.R. Johannes: I am in a romance anthology with some indie authors from the Indelibles. It comes out Feb 14th and is from a guy’s perspective. So my main guy character, Mo, is in it.

Holly: Where do you see yourself at in five years—writing wise?

S.R. Johannes: I hope I am still creating exciting stories that readers love. I’d love to have some experience again with an agent at some point and with a publishing house. Maybe keep on foot in indie pubbing and one in traditional pubbing. But for now, I’m happy doing my own thing.

S.R. Johannes lives in Atlanta Georgia with her dog, British-accented husband, and the huge imaginations of their little prince and princess, which she hopes- someday- will change the world. After earning an MBA and working in corporate america, S.R. Johannes traded in her expensive suits, high heels, and corporate lingo for a family, flip-flops, and her love of writing. You can find her hanging out online and visit her at or her Twitter | Facebook
