Review: Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse #11) by Charlaine Harris

3 Stars
Series: Sookie Stackhouse, 11
Genre: Paranormal, Vampires, Urban Fantasy, Romance, Mystery, Supernatural,
Hardcover
Pages: 325
Book Description from Goodreads
"New in the #1 New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse series-the basis for HBO(r)'s True Blood!

With her knack for being in trouble's way, Sookie witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's, the bar where she works. Since Sam Merlotte is now known to be two-natured, suspicion falls immediately on the anti-shifters in the area. Sookie suspects otherwise, but her attention is divided when she realizes that her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam are plotting to kill the vampire who is now their master. Gradually, Sookie is drawn into the plot-which is much more complicated than she knows..."

In the author’s newest Sookie Stackhouse novel, Sookie, telepath and barmaid in Bon Temps Louisiana, is once again thrown into events out of her control when the bar she works at, Merlotte’s is firebombed.

Not only that but Eric, Sookie’s boyfriend and Sheriff of Area 5’s new master, Victor, is pushing Eric in a way that can only lead to the death of one of them and their people.

I liked this novel, as above we mostly have the two plot lines though of course others that tie in—but the above mostly covers the main plots.

The first being the firebombing at Merlotte’s which brings into question, whether it was a hate crime against the two-natured shapeshifters, which the owner and Sookie’s friend is, or if it was another reason. Either way, business at Merlotte’s is down and with all the troubles already on her plate—Sookie may have to put unemployed on the list as well.

The other ‘problem’ in this novel is Victor, whom we met in one of the last few book after a new King took over Louisiana when the old Queen was weak. From the very time that Victor was granted to oversee Louisiana, Eric and all knew that there would be problems. And there have been—in this novel though things come to a head when Victor keeps pushing Eric and now, even Pam over the edge—which is his intentions. The only question is when the inevitable occurs is who will come out the winner and what or better yet who will be sacrificed in the process.

Both of these were great plot lines but I have to say, with the Victor plot that a lot of things are left unanswered that I thought should have been a little more explained, but believe will be picked up in the next novel. Again though with this novel, the build up of tension that I loved so much from the other novels—excluding the first novel and previous four—was not present and while I had hopes the author would pick it back up in the previous novel and this novel, I was sad to find that she did not and I am going to try and not set my hopes so high on the next novel.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who has read and liked/loved the previous books in the series.
