Review: From Dead to Worse (Sookie Stackhouse #8) by Charlaine Harris

3 Stars
Series: Sookie Stackhouse, #8
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Vampires, Urban Fantasy, Mystery,
Publisher: Ace Hardcover
Pages: 359
Purchase: Thriftbooks
In author Charlaine Harris's eighth Sookie Stackhouse novel Sookie is dealing with problems close to home.

I was very surprised to find that Sookie did not travel somewhere in this book. Especially since she has in all the other books, except the first novel.

One of the main plots and problems for Sookie this time around is coming from the Were War. The Shivport were pack is separated and the death of female pack members escalates things fast.

Another—maybe even bigger plot in this novel is the Vampire Takeover (yes, I think it should be capitalized). The Queen of Louisiana is weak after the bombing in the last novel, at the Vampire Summit and with out her right hand—so to speak—to step up it’s only a matter of time really before another vampire Queen or King comes to take over, and come they do.

With these two major problems for Sookie to contend with she is also dealing with her—two—new roommates, the bar (her job), problems with Jason (her brother) and Crystal’s marriage and Fairy stuff as well.

Altogether this was a good novel and I am glad that we got to stay home in Bon Temps in it and work out some problems there. But I have to say that the book lacked something the last ones had, to me. That same thing was also missing in the first novel for me as well and I think it was the build of the tension be fore the ‘big bad things’ whatever they may be.

I would recommend this novel to anyone who has read and enjoyed the previous novels in the series.
