Spotlight Tuesday: Sacrifices (Embraced by Darkness, #1) by Tarah L. Wolff

Genre: Fantasy,
Publisher: N/A
Pages: 411
Book Description via Goodreads
"Join these three women as they fight, they weep and they fail but also rejoice in their accomplishments. They are asked to sacrifice and they are asked to pull those around them back from the brink of death, sometimes successfully and sometimes to epic failure. They know not that across their land, their choices are affecting the lives of the other women as well as the last of the Humans. But they do not quail before their choices. They are Wards; they stand and they fight.

In this fantasy book, you will find people that face adversity and do not always make the right choices, but stand behind those choices as best they can. A Warlord, a Healer and a woman whose past calls louder and more painfully with every page. All three of them are Wards, leaders of their people, with strength of will to read minds, kill and heal alike. But, even in their power and uniqueness, they cannot deny that they are still simply women who are doing the best that they can. In their journey, they see some of their worst choices cause the deaths of those they love, but also they see where they have succeeded in keeping the darkness at bay.

Graphic and unflinching, it is not a book for anyone expecting any less than realism and all the horror that sometimes follows."

What people are saying about, Sacrifices:

·   "The youngsters have Harry Potter; teenagers have the Twilight series. The Embraced by Darkness series is for adults. This book is full of graphic events and very strong characters... I generally don't read fantasy novels, but this may have changed my tastes... I look forward to the second book so I know what happens next in their lives. " - Sharon Harris

·   "I enjoyed reading this fantasy novel, even though it's not usually my genre of reading material... The author is very graphic in some respects, but I can't wait for the second book!" - Marilyn Wolff

Born in Park Rapids, Minnesota in 1986 Tarah L. Wolff has been writing and dreaming of being a novelist since she was 10 years old. In 2000 she she joined The Jackpine Writers' Bloc and took the group over entirely with her aunt. They restarted the monthly writers' meetings and took control of the group's yearly publication: The Talking Stick. In their time, the JWB has gone from a little known writers' group to a publication with reports of books sold on the Internet from Alaska to England. In 2005, Tarah started a web and print design business called Web Services of Park Rapids. The business has been successful for her and she continues it to this day but Tarah will be the first to say, though, how badly she simply wishes to support herself by writing for the rest of her life.
