Interview with Ashley Robertson

Holly: Hi Ashley! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Ashley Robertson: I'm totally obsessed with urban fantasy and super natural fiction. I live in sunny Orlando, Florida with my husband, stepson, and three fury children (2 labs and a cat).

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Crimson Groves, the first book in your Crimson Series?

Ashley Robertson: The Crimson Series Abigail Tate was a normal human girl. Until the day Bronx the vampire barges into her life and turns her against her will. Held captive while forced to deal with never ending cravings for blood, Abby prays for a way to escape. Only when an opportunity arises, it's with the aid of an innocent human named Tyler—except vampires are forbidden to interact with the unbitten. But Abby quickly learns this human has secrets of his own...secrets that can either help her or get her killed. Only Abby discovers that she was the one with the biggest secret of them all.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Ashley Robertson: Definitely the plot.

Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?

Ashley Robertson: I love everything vampire and I've always had thoughts of how my vampire world would be. And in November 2009, I finally had the opportunity to put my ideas to paper (or should I say computer?)

Holly: Is this the first novel you ever wrote or just the first published?

Ashley Robertson: Crimson Groves is the first novel I completed and published

Holly: Can you tell us a little about your first publishing experience?

Ashley Robertson: Publishing has been the easiest thing I've ever done. HA HA. Actually, it's been quite the opposite. After receiving countless rejection letters from literary agencies (most were because no one wanted to touch anything vampire thanks to the Twilight books), I finally came to the grueling decision of self-publishing. And let me tell you, I respect every other Indie author out there that’s pushing their book daily and making sales. When publishing yourself, there are extra fees and expenses that you eat up front with hopes of making it back in book revenue. Indie authors are on their own with hiring a professional editor—which I highly recommend (mine is Stephen Delaney with Close Reader Editing)—getting a dramatic book cover created (and trust me, a lot of people judge a book by its cover), policing the publishing company since they seem to screw up your manuscript during their ‘formatting’ procedure, and then waiting patiently for the finals to arrive. And that’s just the beginning. Once your book is ready, it’s time to spread the word, market it everywhere, and seek wonderful book bloggers to review it, host interviews and giveaways, all the while praying they’ll love it and give it a good rating. Honestly, it’s a fulltime job just working on that, plus you’ve got to keep writing your next best seller too. :-)

Holly: Where can we purchase Crimson Groves?

Ashley Robertson: It's available everywhere in e-book or print formats. Links can be found on my website: www.AshleyRobertsonBooks.com

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

Ashley Robertson: In 2013, Crimson Rain, Book 2 of The Crimson Series (sequel to Crimson Groves) will pick up right where we left Abby and her quest to learn more about the sorceress powers that were awakened inside her when she was turned into a vampire, making her a whole new hybrid species. There's a group of rogue vamps banning together and forming a Resistance against the vampire governing body, The Head Council, and Abby's newly discovered powers are the key to the Council's victory. Now the Resistance will do anything possible to remove the hybrid threat, and with no other options, Abby is forced to rely on the aid of the Council, yet can she trust the very vampires that hunt for her human lover?

Holly: What was your inspiration for this novel, or the series in general?

Ashley Robertson: Vampires :-)

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

Ashley Robertson: Yes. I'm super close to wrapping up UnGuarded, a YA Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance & Suspense Novel. Guardian angel Selene was so close to becoming an archangel—the supreme of all beings—until she fell in love with Cole, a forbidden dark one. Once she discovers her vampire lover has been kidnapped and the only way to save him is by abandoning her number one priority—Caitlyn, her human charge—there really is only one answer in Selene's mind, even though leaving Caitlyn unguarded will most likely cause Selene to fall from grace.  But her choice to save Cole doesn't come without a price...and now Selene is racing against time to not only save her dark lover, but find a way to keep Caitlyn alive as well.  With the help of a new vampire ally, Luke, Selene will push her diminishing angel abilities to the point where her very existence lies in the balance. Now threatened with the chance of becoming a fallen angel or even dying, Selene can only pray she'll have enough time—and good grace—to save the ones she loves.
