In author Charlaine Harris’s new Sookie Stackhouse novel, Deadlocked, telepath and Barmaid Sookie is once again caught up in the paranormal world. But this time because her boy friend, Vampire and Sheriff of Area-5, Eric Northman is being visited by the vamp King of Louisiana (also of Arkansas & Nevada) on the grounds of his missing ‘regent’ Victor.

This is of course no time for a dead body to show up outside Eric’s house—along with the cops. Especially not a woman whom Eric had just fed on earlier.

I really enjoyed this new installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series!

We pick up pretty much where we left off in the last novel, Dead Reckoning, though time has passed the events leading up to this book are still very much in play—one being the Fae love gift Sookie found in her grandmothers old furniture—it is definitely causing Sookie some problems now. And of course the whole Victor thing which was finally ‘settled’ in the last book.

Also besides just that we have more Fairy issues with all the Fae that now live at Claude’s (Sookie’s cousin of sort and a Fae) strip club Hooligans. These are all the Fae that were left behind when all the others withdrew to Fairy after the big Fae War a couple books back.

Not only that but as in the last book—Sookie must deal with the fact that Eric had been betrothed I suppose to another woman—the vamp Queen of Oklahoma in fact—by his maker before he died. This is a big source of plot in the novel, but at the same time it is not, if that makes sense. Though Sookie ‘thinks’ about it a lot and it is ‘there’ not much is really done about it overall.

Hopefully that will be cleared up in the next—and finale so I hear—novel.

We have more Were issue in this book as well—though that seems to be a prominent factor in the last few books—this one is basically with Sam’s current girlfriend Jannalynn who does not like Sookie at all.

A good bit more happens in this book but I’d hate to relate every part so I will highlight one more thing—we get important Jason plot, which has not been a main focus in the books as he kind of used to be. I do not know if I am sad about this or not—I do not really like Jason that much overall he is kind of self-absorbed ass but then again he is Sookie’s brother.

Altogether—really liked it and I can not wait until the next and finale book comes out in 2013!

I would recommend this novel to anyone who has enjoyed the past novels in this series.
