Review: Once Burned (Night Prince #1) by Jeaniene Frost

5 Stars
Once Burned

Series: Night Prince #1
Author: Jeaniene Frost
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Adult,
Publisher: Avon
Mass Market Paperback
Pages: 373

In author Jeaniene Frost’s newest book Once Burned—the first book in the long awaited Night Prince series about Vlad Tepesh from her Night Huntress series we meet Leila Dalton.

Leila, also known as Frankie to some, was struck by a down power line she touched when she was younger, after coming out of a coma she soon learned that besides a scar, and the death of her mother, she now literally shocked anyone she touched.

Not only that but soon she began to see things when she touched objects or people, their past, future and the present. The worst things they had ever done in their lives.

Being a former gymnast, Leigh joins the circus. Living her life, abet a solitude one, she is shocked to learn that worse things are to come in her life as she is kidnapped by vampires and forced to track another one down. Using her only talents to help herself, she sides herself with the other vampire—Vlad.

Even after she is safely away from the ones who kidnapped her, the main man who put them up to it is still after her—and Vald and he is not about to give up his hunt for either of them.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Vlad has been one of my favorite characters from the Night Huntress series and for us to get a whole book filled with Vlad—though I would have love it even more if it was from Vald’s POV—is amazing!

Vlad and Leila click right off the bat—her powers do not hurt him at all like they do other people and eventually vampires, and Vlad does not make a secret about his plan to have her in his bed.

Of course she is against this idea—but mostly because he is so sure of it and she wants to prove him wrong.

So she plans to have sex with one of Vlad’s vampire or at least prove she is attracted—seeing as she can not hurt them really with her touch until after a while of touching—Maximus. Maximus is very into Leila and whether because he really liked her or just because he wanted to have sex with her I have no idea.

Is Maximus going to be what Tate was to Cat in the Night Huntress series?
Another thing I liked in this book was that Leila joined the circus. It was a very unique plot idea/background all around and I am curious as to whether—besides Leila and Marty—a vampire—if there are any other supernatural’s in the circus that they do not know about.

In the end I was left wanting more, of both the plot and sex scenes (man I could read Vlad sex scenes all day!), and wondering if our bad guy was really ‘dead’. I can not wait until the next book in this series comes out to find out and get more Vlad!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has read the author’s Night Huntress series or anyone looking for a great paranormal/UF novel to read!
