Review: Wilde's Fire (Darkness Falls #1) by Krystal Wade

4 Stars
Wilde's Fire
Series: Darkness Falls
Author: Krystal Wade
Genre: YA, Paranormal, Romance, Fantasy,
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Pages: 324
In author Krystal Wade's first Darkness Falls novel, Wilde’s Fire we meet Katriona Wilde, her family, best friend Brad and Arland.

Katriona her sister and Brad are on a camping trip when a mysterious light that only she and her sister can see leads them to a underwater cave that takes them all to another world where they are attacked by beasts. Before the attack Katriona manages to push her sister back through, but when Brad tries to do the same to her, she realizes that they portal has closed.

Brad is attacked and almost killed trying to save Katriona before people come and fight the beast away.

This is our first real introduction into the world that is the main focus of the book. That is besides Katriona’s dreams that always feature the same man—not to long after she gets to the compound where the people live, underground, Katriona finds him; Arland, the man who has been in her dreams for years.

Here Arland tells Katriona that she is the one from a prophecy that will save them from the Darkness that is killing away all their people and has left their world dark and dying.

But to save the world Katriona must be able to fulfill her prophecy by using magic that the people have not seen in years, and made illegal, but with no one left around that knows it, how is she supposed to learn?

First of all I have to say I really liked it—I really did. I read it through in one sitting staying up until 4 A.M. to do so and not because I had to, but because I liked it that much and I am very much looking forward to the next book.

I just wanted to get that clear so you do not think I am contradicting myself when I tell you that even though I liked Katriona I also wanted to yell at her—I in fact did yell at her a few times. More than a few times. But at the same time I think I liked the book because of it, if that makes since? If I had not had such strong feeling toward Katriona, even frustration, I do not think I would have liked this book nearly as much.

Example number 1: Really? You have been friends with Brad most all your life and had people tell you he liked you as more than a friend practically all your life and you’re really surprised when he suddenly says he likes you as more than a friend?

Talk about living in denial!

Example number 2: Not only that but I have to say that Katriona was very… I am not sure on the right word, but she was guilt ridden at the slightest little thing, like when she gets upset (for a very valid reason) and sulks for about a day, she is  so upset that she acted that way and ‘upset’ and ignored other people.

Not only that but I think there are few things in this book that are blindingly obvious to Katriona besides the whole Brad thing that she just totally ignores, which of course caused a lot more yelling and pointing out on my part.

We have a few supporting characters in this book that become pretty ingrained in this book that I am sure we will be seeing again in the next and a potential love triangle as well (that does not involve Brad).

Overall though, I really liked this book it is a trifle with things that alternatively frustrate me, catch my attention wholeheartedly and left me wanting more. In the end this is a book that people are either going to really love or hate, I do not think there is going to be much in-between with it.

This is one of those books that make me want to rant, yell at the characters and pick up the next book ASAP—we are left hanging big time in the end of this book and I can not wait until to get my hands on Wilde's Army!

*I received a hardcover/paperback/eBook copy/ARC of this book for free to review from the author/publisher; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.
