Interview with A. McEwan, an author of the Bella Morte Anthology!

Please help me welcome author A. McEwan to Full Moon Bites! :)

Holly: Hi Ada McEwan! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

A. McEwan: Oh, where should I start?  Well, I am very happily married to Red, the frontman for the rockabilly band, The Blacktop Ramblers. I have two children, my son is a freshman at college and my daughter is a junior in high school this year.  I am a small town librarian and have my own candle-making company called Raven Hollow.  I am heavily involved with my community and I am always advocating for local and national animal rescues and shelters while educating the perils of animals everywhere.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

A. McEwan: I always have wanted to.  It was always on my “When I grow up I want to be/do” list at school.

Holly: Where can we purchase “Bella Morte”?

A. McEwan: You can purchase “Bella Morte A Beautiful Death Anthology on Amazon!

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

A. McEwan: Oh yeah!

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

A. McEwan: Yes, I am currently working on my Raven Hollow series and a few shorts.

Holly: Your life is a romantic comedy; what humorous, but very embarrassing thing happens on your first date/when you meet the love of your life?

A. McEwan: Oh boy!  I could go on about this for hours!  I am such a klutz!  The first date Red and I had, he had taken me down to the Old Market to O’Connor’s Irish Pub.  It was a cloudy, misty day and of course I had to be wearing my chunky heeled, knee-high go-go boots that day.  Well after a few rounds of Guinness and whiskey we decided to leave.  Red, being the gentleman he is, opened the door to his truck for me and I started to hop in, lost my footing on the wet running board and I kind of crumpled up on the floor board.  I wanted to die of embarrassment right then and there!  A soaking wet, crazy woman wearing a mini skirt and these wild boots, falling into a truck and he was gracious enough not to laugh at me and kissed me instead!  We got married two weeks later.

Holly: How did you get published in the anthology “Bella Morte”?

A. McEwan: I had been toying around and writing a prequel that I titled, “The Inheritance” for my Raven Hollow series and “Bella Morte” was the right anthology to submit it to.  I also had a lot of encouragement from a few wonderful friends to do it, but I never thought it would get accepted, but was thrilled when it did!

Holly: Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

A. McEwan: Oh definitely!  I love writing other genres!  It is really nice to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself to do so!  I have been working on a horror and a historical romance for awhile now and it really helps clean out those cobwebs between your ears!

Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

A. McEwan: I would be lying if I said I didn’t do this!” *giggles*  “Real life and the people in it are a big inspiration for my characters or their actions.  There have been some real doozies that’s for sure.

Holly: Is this the first novel you ever wrote or just the first published?

A. McEwan: This is the first published story.  I actually wrote my first full length novel with a typewriter when I was twelve years old.  That was also about the time my parents found out I was bipolar and that throwing all my clothes out of my closet and putting in my desk and typewriter was not what a normal child would do. *laughs* Great memories!

Holly: What was your inspiration for this novel, or the series in general?
A. McEwan: I wanted to introduce to the public how my characters came to be.  It is so much more then just another short story.  It has evolved into this huge, mind-boggling project.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

A. McEwan: Yes, of course.  Always be true to yourself and never give up a passion you have in life.  Never let anyone tell you that you can’t just because they can’t.   Never give up without a good fight for a belief or cause you support. I always say; “Paint a pretty picture, it takes “one” to make it real.

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?
A. McEwan: My favorite part is getting what I have pictured in my mind on paper.  Or getting so involved in the writing, that time has slipped away.

Random Quickies!

Holly: When do you prefer to read?
A. McEwan: Whenever I have a chance.

Holly: Vampires or Werewolves?

A. McEwan: Vampires

Holly: Witches or Zombies?

A. McEwan: Witches

Holly: Favorite color?

A. McEwan: Black

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

A. McEwan: Coke
