Honestly I think the title of this book drew me to it, it was free on Amazon Kindle one day and I thought it (the title) sounded interesting. I do not think I even read the description, but I am so glad that I got it!

In this book we meet Lauren Covington and Jesse Ryder.

Lauren is a collage student and aspiring journalist. Form the out side her family is perfect, a loving mother and father, perfect home, money, everything they could ever want. But Lauren has been living with a dark secret in her family all her life; her father abuses her mother, badly, and she and her brother are not left out of it either. She has long since learned to be quiet and let things be, but when her brother dies Lauren can't be quiet any longer--it has to end.

Jesse Ryder helps everything come into play. As a private investigator Jessie has did one job for Alex Covington before, a simple one, but when he wanted Jesse to do another but illegal job for him, Jessie refuses. Unfortunately for Alex, Jesse has ethics and a strong will that won't let him back down, no matter what.

Falling in love with Alex Covington's daughter was not something he planned, and doesn't help his situation any but the two are drawn together and Jesse will do anything to protect Lauren and take her father down.

Alex has been controlling and manipulating people for a long time, and consequently has a lot of connections, bringing him down is going to be harder than anything Jessie has ever done, if they can do it at all.

This book was great. The emotion of the characters, especially Lauren, her mother, and brother are expressed so clearly in the book that it is almost like living them yourself.

Jesse and Lauren's relationship is great and bad--great because they are perfect for each other but bad because of her father.

Her father. From the very beginning we see his true colors, we actually get a few parts from his point-of-view and my hate from him grew more and more throughout the book--he is horrible, cold and very calculating. Besides anger I do not think he ever expressed any other feelings/emotions.

We also get Jesse's POV and Lauren in the book, most of the first half his Lauren but the second half of the book is mostly Jesse.

Overall Enemies and Playmates is a very engrossing read. I started reading it last night and could hardly put it down to go to bed. We live through Lauren and Jesse's life as they go through the ordeal and learn, it is an emotional ride and we learn both characters true strength of will in the end.

This is one book I will not soon forget. I would recommend this book to anyone.
