R.J. Blog Tour 2012--we're off! by R. J. Sullivan

Please help me welcome author R. J. Sullivan to Full Moon Bites for the kick-off of the Haunting Obsession blog tour! :)

Hello from Heartland Crossing, Indiana! My head is still spinning from the very exciting launch week for Haunting Obsession.

We started Saturday, August 11, with the book launch at the annual Paranormal Meet n' Greet held on the haunted grounds of the Historic Hannah House in Greenwood, Indiana. Special thanks to Nikki Howard, raving fan of SSP author Michael West, who volunteered to dress as "Maxine Marie" throughout the event, drawing visitors to my table and making a spectacle of us in just the right way.

After that promising start, Seventh Star Press guru Stephen Zimmer stepped it up to put all the print and book files online. Amazon and Barnes and Noble dragged their feet a bit, and everything went live Wednesday night, but like the average NASA shuttle launch, we got back on schedule and it turned out okay.

But Stephen wasn't done, he kept at it, working diligently the first half of the week to ensure the book trailer was ready and absolutely beyond my highest expectations when we premiered it Wednesday night after all the files went live. He took my comments and tweaks in stride, and didn't even get ruffled when the problems were my fault (typos in the credits). He just "got 'er done" so when all was finished, we had something we could all be proud of.

As an author, it's an interesting process to market a book. In the case of Haunting Obsession, I typed "The End" back in December. I'm ten chapters into Virtual Blue, and as each piece of marketing comes into play, as the cover comes together, as the edits are needed, I have to return to a mental mindset I'd left behind eight to nine months ago and find something new to contribute. In a way, it's all "fresh" to me again.

As I said, I finished in December. Since then, I have watched and advised, sometimes in nervous anticipation, while Seventh Star dresses and accessorizes "my baby" to prepare her for her closeup. Now, it's time for her to go out on her own, and we'll all see what the world thinks of her.

I'm looking forward to taking the next 21 days to tell you some of the fun stories behind the creation of Haunting Obsession. Some of these entries will be text, like this one. Others will be video blogs. In still others, I'm hoping to video record Skype conversations with various members of "Team R.J." and Seventh Star who helped to make this a reality.

You'll meet Lily Monstermeat, my pre-release Maxine marketing model for the web. You've seen her fabulous image and shape on the 5' cardboard standee, the book trailer, and the author photo.

You'll meet Jan Pulsford, international commercial electronica musician, whose career credits include the Thompson Twins and Cyndi Lauper, and how she created the music remix from her own material to give the book trailer such an incredible mood.

You'll meet Bonnie Wasson, Seventh Star artist. We'll discuss why I wanted her as "my" artist even before I'd signed the contract. You'll learn for the first time, as I will, her side of the process how my project was presented to her and how she went about creating her pieces. And what did she really think of my chicken scratch sketches? J

And of course, we'll dig into the book itself. You'll get a little more insight into Maxine, Daryl, and Loretta. And perhaps learn a bit more about the enigmatic Rebecca Burton. Whether you've read the novel already or are just thinking of checking it out, I'm planning on adding new material, new insights into what makes each of my characters tick.

And maybe a surprise or two. Some of those surprises may include a Little Mermaid mug.

Thanks for joining me. I hope you'll stick around. It's going to be a lot of fun. Thank you to Full Moon Bites for letting me introduce myself, and to Seventh Star Press for everything they do, including setting up this blog tour.

Haunting Obsession Synopsis

“She wants to be loved by you…alone!”
Daryl Beasley collects all things Maxine Marie, whose famous curves and fast lifestyle made her a Hollywood icon for decades after her tragic death. Daryl’s girlfriend, Loretta Stevens, knew about his geeky lifestyle when they started dating, but she loves him, quirks and all.
Then one day Daryl chooses to buy a particularly tacky piece of memorabilia instead of Loretta’s birthday present. Daryl ends up in the doghouse, not only with Loretta, but with Maxine Marie herself. The legendary blonde returns from the dead to give Daryl a piece of her mind—and a haunting obsession he’ll never forget.

R. J. Sullivan resides with his family in Heartland Crossing, Indiana. His first novel, Haunting Blue, is an edgy paranormal thriller about punk girl loner Fiona "Blue" Shaefer and her boyfriend Chip Farren. R.J. is hard at work on the next chapter in Fiona's story, Virtual Blue, coming soon from Seventh Star Press.  R.J. is a member of the Indiana Horror Writers.
