Interview with Tarah Scott

Holly: Hi Tarah! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Tarah Scott: I grew up in the Southwest and moved to New York fifteen years ago. I have a teenage daughter, so I'm not sure I'll live through the next few years. An age old story, I know! She's a great kid, but she still manages to make me nuts. I write every spare minute I can, and when I'm not writing, I'm thinking about writing. Some call that an obsession. They might be right.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Tarah Scott: Gosh, I first got the bug to write about seventeen years ago, but I didn't write my first book until eleven years ago.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Lord Keeper?

Tarah Scott: Lord Keeper is set in 1508. This was the second book I wrote and is unique from my other books. Something about the style of this book is set apart from my other historicals. Maybe it's the time period, I don't know. I love this book. It's a big book with raw emotion.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Tarah Scott: Gosh, I swing both ways! Sometimes I'll get an idea about a situation and have to figure out what sorts of people would fit that situation. Other times, I see a character in an initial situation and I wonder what they will go on to do.

Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?

Tarah Scott: Lord Keeper was inspired by a secondary character in Julie Garwood's The Bride.

Holly: You’re out demon hunting (because you’re that kind of awesome) and you come across one about to kill a young couple. He has not seen you yet; what is your first course of action?

Tarah Scott: I grab the closest big object and brain the sucker.

Holly: Where can we purchase Lord Keeper?

Tarah Scott: Amazon   ARe  Bookstrand

Holly: Is this the first novel you ever wrote or just the first published?

Tarah Scott: Lord Keeper is the second novel I wrote. The novel due from Silver in Septermber, My Highland Love, is my first novel.

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

Tarah Scott: My next release is slated for September 2012 from Silver Press My Highland Love

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

Tarah Scott: I am working on a Scottish Medieval Death Comes for a Knight. My knight meets the banshee who is sent to portend his death, and he falls in love with her.

Holly: Are you reading anything interesting at the moment? If so, what is it?

Tarah Scott: I'm always reading something interesting! Right now I'm reading Linnea Sinclair's Gabriel's Ghost

Holly: Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

Tarah Scott: I write in several genres now; historical, romantic suspense and paranormal.

Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

Tarah Scott: ROFL. I'm not sure. I can say that there's a lot in my characters I hope I am.

Holly: Why this genre(s)?

Tarah Scott: I love classical romance!

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Tarah Scott: Do write a lot. Do read a lot. Don't buy into writer's block. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Tarah Scott: I'm always thrilled to hear from readers. Ultimately, readers are what bring a story full circle. Without you, we authors would most certainly go from thinking we're crazy to being sure we're crazy. Thanks for reading our books.

Holly: Where do you see yourself at in five years—writing wise?

Tarah Scott: In five years, I see myself writing full time.
