Interview with Louisa Bacio, author of Bed of the Dead!

Please help me welcome author Louisa Bacio to Full Moon Bites to talk about her erotic tale Bed of the Dead!

Holly: Hi Louisa Bacio! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Louisa Bacio: I totally understand what it’s like to do too much. In addition to writing and teaching college, I’m also a mother of two young children, and a wife. I work many part-time jobs, but love that I’m able to make dinner most nights.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your short story “Bed of the Dead?”

Louisa Bacio: “Bed of the Dead” is a dark paranormal erotic tale. The “dark” comes into play because vampires act like traditional vampires – they don’t particularly act nice, but they’re still as sexy as hell.

Holly: You’re out demon hunting (because you’re that kind of awesome) and you come across one about to kill a young couple. He has not seen you yet; what is your first course of action?

Louisa Bacio: My goal would be to take him out before he can get me, or kill the couple. But, do we really know he’s bad? Maybe he’s just misunderstood? I dream about shooting magic white light from the palms of my hands … so that would be my weapon.

Holly: Where can we purchase “Bed of the Dead?”

Louisa Bacio: It’s available at all major eretailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Holly: Can we expect more stories/novels from you in 2012?

Louisa Bacio: For Halloween, Hot Ink Press will release my dark paranormal short Reanimated Love. I’ve got an amazing necklace that’ll be part of that giveaway. Also, my first 1Night Stand story A Date with Death with Decadent Publishing just went on sale Aug. 24.

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

Louisa Bacio: I’m deep into book 4 of my erotic paranormal The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf series. Subtitled The Wolfe Pack, the story focuses on Silver setting off on an adventure in order to find her birth father. Of course, she discovers more than she anticipated. Her regular love interest, Nick, is one of my favorites, so I enjoy being in the story. It should be out later this fall.

Holly: Are you reading anything interesting at the moment? If so, what is it?

Louisa Bacio: Would you believe I’m pouring through J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series? I know, I know, I’m late to the game. I started them in April, and currently up to book #8. That said, when I’m focused on writing, I tend not to read so much. I only have so much time in a day.

Holly: Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

Louisa Bacio: In addition to the romantic paranormals, I enjoy reading romantic suspense. I’ve got a few ideas there, and with my Italian background, I always joke that you’ll see an Italian Virgin Billionaire story from me someday.

Holly: Who or what influenced your writing once you began?

Louisa Bacio: When it comes to this story, I’d have to say Joss Wheldon and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” I used to hold viewing parties with my roommates, friends and later hubby. I like that mixture of dark romance with the paranormal elements.

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Louisa Bacio: Don’t give up. That’s easier said than done, but it’s so important. Surround yourself with other writers who understand what you’re going through. It’s also good to have a variety of publishing levels. Those who are doing extremely well will serve for inspiration, and will be around to offer advice. And, once you’ve reached your dreams, remember to reach a hand out to others who may need help.

Holly: Is there a genre that you love to read, and would like to write, but just cannot?

Louisa Bacio: Historical romance. I adore authors such as Tessa Dare, but I don’t think I’d do the genre justice. I’ve never been good with historical elements. That said, with my “The Vampire, The Witch & The Werewolf” series, I’ve had to do some research since my vampire is 180+ years old.

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

Louisa Bacio: Getting fully immersed within the story and the minds of the characters. There are times when I feel borderline schizophrenic because I’m not writing, but the voices are still in my head. Hopefully, many other authors can relate to that feeling.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Louisa Bacio: Thank you for your continued to support. I actually love to hear from readers, so please always feel free to contact me. Know that in real life, I can sometimes be shy – no, don’t laugh – I do my best not to be, but every now and then the super-geek slips out from under the pink hair.

Holly: What is your take on editing your work (pre-edits I suppose before it gets passed to an editor)—do you hate it? Is it a strong point for you?

Louisa Bacio: By “trade,” I’m a copy editor. That said, some of the hardest mistakes to find tend to be your own because your mind fills in the blanks of what’s supposed to be right. Before turning in a story, I actually print it and do edits via paper. I try to catch as much as possible, but I’m thankful to editors and copy editors as back-up.

Random Quickies!

Holly: Favorite color?

Louisa Bacio: Purple

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

Louisa Bacio: Coke. Pepsi tastes too sweet to me.

Holly: Favorite genre to read?

Louisa Bacio: Paranormal romance.

Holly: Favorite movie?

Louisa Bacio: Grease.

Holly: Favorite book to movie?

Louisa Bacio: Harry Potter. My girlfriend and I would go to the midnight opening of the films.

Holly: Night or day?

Louisa Bacio: I write about the paranormal world – vampires. Which do you think?

Holly: Swimming pool or ocean/lake?

Louisa Bacio: Resort swimming pool. That said, I need to live by the ocean.

"When Chloe places an Online ad for some kinky sex, she doesn’t expect to hook up with a vampire coven. But sleeping in the bed of the dead isn’t all she expected. Instead of a cold lay, she craves some warm flesh. Fortunately, gorgeous surfer-boy Seth is more than willing to share his humanity."
