Interview about the Elatia line with Rie, editor from Decadent Publishing!

I am so excited to have the Rie, an editor for Decadent Publishing here today to talk about their Elatia line!

Rie: First off, thank you for inviting me!

Holly: Thank you so much for visiting with us here at Full Moon Bites, Rie! :)

Holly: Can you tell us a little about the Elatia line from Decadent Publishing?

Rie: The Elatia line is Decadent’s dedicated channel for cross-genre sci-fi romance stories. In other words: love, in space!

Holly: Where did the idea for the Elatia line stem from?

Rie: That’s a very good question—I think the original idea was the brainchild of Decadent’s managing editor and co-founder, Heather Bennett. I remember a conversation the two of us had a while back, all about Firefly and Star Wars and our favorite sci-fi books. She loves the genre as much as I do, and during our discussion, she mentioned she’d been wanting, for some time, to launch a sci-fi line. A few weeks later, I got the official e-mail.

Holly: What was the inspiration for the actual worlds and people in the Elatia line?

Rie: Azura Ice (a.k.a. Faith Bicknell-Brown) was given the task of writing the launch book, Forever Across the Stars. She’s a tremendous writer—and so cool to work with! She really understands the expectations of the genre, but never loses sight of the notion that no matter where the story is set, we readers are interested in the characters first.

Holly: Can you tell us about the Adamos and who they are?

Rie: Elatia is a peaceful, vacation paradise—known throughout the Belverian System as the “pleasure planet”—and is also home to the school and training center for the universally admired Adamos. The Adamos are expertly trained in the pleasure arts…and all that that implies…and I leave the rest to our readers’ and especially our authors’ wild imaginations!

Holly: I know there are already a few books in this line—do you have any more planned for release for this or the coming year?

Rie: We do have a few in the works, and we are looking for more!

Holly: How would an author go about being a part of this line if they wished to? What would be the first thing they needed to do?

Rie: Well, the first thing they’d need to do is write a story. Submission guidelines and a “world bible” are available on the Decadent Website; these should give you the technical details you’d need to craft a story for the line. And then, please submit your story to us—we’d love to take a look!

Holly: How long do Elatia Line books have to be?

Rie: We ask that manuscripts follow Decadent’s general guidelines, so 50K words max.

Holly: Can the author add their own flair to the worlds or must they follow the world bible at the site to a T?

Rie: The more flair the better—there’s plenty of potential for all kinds of interesting conflict authors can explore. The existing world leaves lots of room for all kinds of characters: kings and queens, scoundrels and ne’er-do-wells, fierce warriors and gentle travelers…you name it! And just like we learn more about our own world every day, I’d love to learn more about Elatia (and the entire Belverian System) as our authors write more about it!

Holly: Can the Elatia line be any pairing (i.e m/f, m/m, ménage, f/f, etc.) or must they be m/f?

Rie: The Elatia line can be any pairing, but keep in mind that we are looking for character-driven, well-researched stories. The heat level can be sweet to smokin’ hot, as long as the story is character-driven.

Holly: Following that line of thought could the line include BDSM books?

Rie: Why not? :) (But P.S.: character-driven.)

Holly: Any last minute thoughts you want to let readers or authors know about the Elatia Line?

Rie: As an author, writing for the Elatia line is a great place to stretch those writing muscles and try something new. For example, if you usually write police procedurals, why not try a police procedural in space? Or go 180 degrees from your usual and try your hand at, say, a space-flavored Regency! In the Elatia line, the sky is literally the limit!
Holly: Once again thank you so much for being here with us today and talking about the Elatia line at Decadent Publishing!

About Elatia

Elatia, known as ”the pleasure planet”, is located in the center of the Belverian System. With its two suns and single moon, Elatia is not only a peaceful, vacation paradise, but home to the school for the universally admired Adamos, who are expertly trained in the pleasure arts.

Enjoy the exotic comforts of Elatia. Immerse yourself in the popular Femwars Battles, spend a day walking the shops of Havmiola, Elatia's capital, or travel to the other planets in the Belverian System to find your own adventure.

You may never wish to leave...

The first four books in the Elatia Series are Forever Across the Stars by Azura Ice, An Unexpected Return by Jessica E. Subject, Courtesan Boot Camp by D.L. Jackson, and Lethal Beauty by Sara Brookes. Each book tells the reader a little bit more about world of Elatia and the peoples who inhabit it.

Decadent Publishing's sci-fi line is looking for fresh, romantic or erotic short stories ranging from 7-50K, with HEA or HFN endings. All stories should incorporate Elatian elements, diction, characteristics, and any other details that can be found in the Elatia World Bible. Characters must have interaction with Elatia or have part of their story take place on the Elatian planet, but may travel or originate from any of the other planets in the Belverian System.
