Interview & #Giveaway with JoAnne Kenrick, author of Shamrocked!

FMB Blog Tours just finished a tour with the wonderful JoAnne Kenrick for her book Bittersweet Symphony and I am so excited to have here her on Full Moon Bites today for her Shamrocked book tour! Also do not miss the giveaway below!

Hi JoAnne Kenrick! :) Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a Welsh lass who has lived across the globe with her hubs and two children, and is now settled in North Carolina. I’ve had various jobs and hobbies, some of which are pretty out there and never made me any cash--Ghost Tour Guide, Color Therapist, Window Dresser, psychic artist and card reader--but thank goodness I finally found my calling. The thing that makes me the most happiest. Writing! Creating people and telling their stories. Yes. I’m where I am supposed to be. And yes, my travel and life experience do inspire stories. You can experience England, Wales, and Scotland, without even leaving your seat.

Can you tell us a little bit about your book, Shamrocked?

BLURB: BLURB: Devlin Kinney is focused on his Irish Rock band, Shamrocked. Between that and tending bar at Bell's Irish Pub, he's rushed off his feet. Still, he's envious of Shaun who found his perfect woman through Madame Eve's exclusive agency, 1Night Stand.
Pushed for time, he follows his friend's lead and hopes to be matched with a woman ballsy enough to share in his fetish for things that go buzzzz.

At the event of the year for soap stars, Elizabeth Grant meets Devlin and mistakes him for her soon-to-be co-star on The East End. Before she has a chance to confess she's not his 1Night Stand as he seems to think, the silver-tongued smooth dancer proves irresistible. He seems perfect...for one night of pleasure. She's ready to play the role of her life!

Will his Irish charm and toys be enough to hold onto his leading lady, or will his heart be shamrocked into next week?

Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

In this instance, the characters, because Devlin--the hero--is a secondary character in Sweet Irish Kiss. Readers went crazy over him, and kept asking for his book. And thus, Shamrocked and the series, Irish Kisses, was born.

Where can we purchase Shamrocked?

Shamrocked, along with all my books are available in most major e-book stores, including but not limited to, these:

What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?

The fact that you don't go to your office every day, and get to talk to others in the same field. There's no water cooler chat, and no mid-morning break with your co-workers. When you're working, it's just you. You and your fictional world.

What is the easiest part of writing in your opinion?

I love what I do, and every day is an adventure! So it may be a pretend adventure, it's still a whole lot of fun.

Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Follow editors feeds on twitter; they give out useful information and tips on how to query and what they are looking for such as submission call-outs.

Always follow the publisher's submission guidelines. If you're not sure of something ask them or an author you may be in touch with via social network sites.

Buy a few books on writing in the genre you wish to write in.
Here's some I find very helpful and inspiring for the romance genre:
http://www.amazon.com/Complete-Idiots-Writing-Erotic-Romance/dp/1592575463
http://www.amazon.com/How-Write-Hot-Sex-Multi-Published/dp/1466353961

http://www.amazon.com/Emotion-Thesaurus-Writers-Character-Expression/dp/1475004958
Don't use your family or close friends as critique readers. Just don't. It won't end well.

If you could live in one of your books or series’ which would you choose and why?
Irish Kisses -- rem, hot irish accents, barmen eager to please and who know how to make the most delicious cocktails known to man. Heck yes. Girls night out anyone?

What are some of the pro’s and con’s of self-publishing verses being published by a publisher in your opinion?

I've never self-published so I can't really answer that question. I can tell you why I've opted not to go that route myself.
Plain and simple, I would rather spend my time writing than trying to do the work my publishers do so well.

Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

I can't thank you enough for all the feedback I get on my books, and I do listen to your feedback. Always. The good, the bad, and the really ugly. And. Well… all those emails and messages on Facebook and twitter worked. Your wish is my command. Devlin's story is available for your reading pleasure. So go forth and grab yourself a tasty treat!

What is your take on editing your work (pre-edits I suppose before it gets passed to an editor)—do you hate it? Is it a strong point for you?

Na, this is the part of the process where I start to see my story shine. Even better when it goes to actual edits with the publisher. I love getting those and working on all the boo-boos so I can develop and work on what I already know. As a writer, we're always learning.

Random Quickies!

When do you prefer to read?

Last thing at night, in bed with a cup of something tasty and warming. Or late evening on the veranda with a glass of chilled white wine and tunes singing out in the background.

Vampires or Werewolves?

Vampires, always vampires. I'm not a huge fan of hairballs.

Witches or Zombies?

Cripes, that's a hard one. Zombies…because I have a zombie character in Tales from the Coffin.

Supernatural or Psych? (TV Shows)

Argh. Stop with the hard choices. Can I say both? Pretty please?

Ebook or hardcover/paperback?

Digital all the way, baby!

Favorite color?

To wear, pink. To look at, red.

Dark Chocolate or Milk Chocolate?

Cadbury's Milk Chocolate.

Surrounded by bridesmaids—the hottest guy in the place. His thick Irish brogue carried over the chattering wedding crowd and bad party songs.
Swallowing any signs of stage fright, she checked her fake hair in a mirrored wall, plumped her boobs, and plastered on a smile before making a beeline for her drop-dead gorgeous, future co-star.
She waded through the rough sea of pink-chiffoned up women, snapped out her arm, and took his hand like one of those shaking weight things. Thought she’d blown it until his mouth tilted up into a tempting smile. Dimples. Oh, my. He would be popular with the ladies. Might even help get her noticed by movie producers. Dating this hottie would get her on every front page known to the British public.
“Liz.” She fought to keep focused on his face rather than his thick muscles and rhythmic movements. She couldn’t recall ever seeing a man who could make dancing to All Night Long by Lionel Ritchie so goddamned sexy. His jig was infectious—her arm swayed in beat with his, their hands still clasped together.
“As in Elizabeth?”
“Uh-huh.” The swarm of bridesmaids knitted their brows and pursed their lips. One even stamped her foot. Liz couldn’t help but turning on a sweet smile. “Buh-bye, ladies.”

Born n bred Brit, JoAnne Kenrick grew up in a wee sea-side town in North Wales and has enjoyed a variety of vocations such as holistic healer, window dresser, and ghost tour guide. Having lived in Wales, England, and Scotland with her dear family, she finally escaped the dull British summers to reside in sunny Australia. After two years, they moved to the States where she endured three harsh winters in Minnesota. She now lives in North Carolina with her husband, two kids and two puddy cats. When they aren't demanding her attention, or jumping on her head, she strums away on the keys of her little laptop, creating worlds and adventures she could only ever dream of. Come across the pond and faraway....with JoAnne Kenrick!
