Interview with B.J. Daniels, author of Justice At Cardwell Ranch!

I want to welcome author B.J. Daniels to Full Moon Bites today to talk about her book Justice At Cardwell Ranch, the sequel of Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch!

Holly: Hi B.J.! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?
B.J. Daniels: I’m just like everyone else except I spend a whole lot of time with people I make up. You would think that would make me weird, huh. See how wrong you are?
Seriously? I’m a Texas-born girl who loves Tex-Mex cooking, who moved to Montana at a tender age and fell in love with the Wild West. I grew up listening to my storytelling family and always wanted to write.
I worked a lot of different jobs before I became a newspaper reporter and editor and eventually wrote short stories and finally books.
I have sold more than 75 books, written over 60 so far, and when I’m not writing, I quilt, waterski, boat, play tennis, snowboard and read.
I live with my amazing husband Parker and three Springer Spaniel dogs: Spot, Jem and Ace. I have one daughter, two stepdaughters and six grandchildren and counting. I live in a small Montana town and love writing about my life (sans the murders).
Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?
B.J. Daniels: I remember deciding I was going to be a writer when I was eight. I’d never met a writer nor did I know anything about it. I just wanted to make up stories. My big dream was for someone to read to them.
I loved books, so getting a book published was almost beyond my dreams. I started writing short stories for Woman’s World and finally wrote my first book, Odd Man Out for Harlequin Intrigue in 1995.
It’s been one thrill after another since. Sometimes I have to pinch myself.

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Justice At Cardwell Ranch?
B.J. Daniels: Justice is the sequel to Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch. Readers kept asking me what happened after Crime Scene ended. I was curious myself. J At the end of Crime Scene, my heroine is still at odds with her sister and two brothers over their mother’s inheritance. I thought: what can bring a family back together?
There was only one answer: murder! J
Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?
B.J. Daniels: We all know how families are when it comes to arguments, especially those involved money. It requires regaining trust. For some, it means growing up. For others, it means forgiving. I like to think that love conquers all. So Justice at Cardwell Ranch is about all of that and murder and danger and babies.
Holly: Can you tell us a little about what attracted you to this genre?
B.J. Daniels: I love a good mystery!! Add a love story and I think you have the perfect book. When I heard about Harlequin Intrigue from a friend, I knew it was my kind of series.
Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?
B.J. Daniels: Absolutely! My very first single title will be out in December. (I am so excited!) Unforgiven is set in the fictional town of Beartooth, Montana. It sits in the shadow of the Crazy Mountains and is a murder mystery with several love stories. I fell in love with the people of this small, isolated town and I hope my readers will as well.
Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?
B.J. Daniels: Books are a culmination of the lives of authors. I take all my life experiences and  all the people I have crossed paths with and add my imagination and poof: characters come to life. None of them are anyone I know. They are parts of everyone I’ve known. I think that is why they seem so real to me and apparently to my readers.
Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?
B.J. Daniels: Thank you so much. I have the most loyal, most wonderful readers in the world, actually all over the world. I have readers who have stayed with me from my very first book and others who only recently found me. I thank you all for letting me do what I love.

Six years ago, Dana Cardwell found her mother's will in a cookbook and became sole owner of the Cardwell Ranch in Big Sky, Montana. Now happily married, Dana is surprised when her siblings, Stacy and Jordan, show up on the ranch and trouble isn't too far behind. As danger draws closer to the ranch, deputy marshal Liza Turner quickly realizes that Jordan Cardwell isn't the man the town made him out to be.
