Book Description:

The year is 1983. Christian is 22 years old when he leaves his home in Denmark to spend a year in Florida with a very wealthy family and go to med-school. A joyful night out with friends is shattered by an encounter with a savage predator that changes his life forever. Soon he faces challenges he had never expected. A supernatural gift he has no idea how to embrace. A haunting family in the house next door. A spirit-filled girl who seems to carry all the answers. An ancient secret hidden in the swamps of Florida. One life never the same. One love that becomes an obsession. Two destinies that will be forever entangled.

Savage is a paranormal romance with some language, violence, and sexual situations recommended for ages sixteen and up. It is the first book in a family saga that covers three decades of the character's lives. The sequel is expected in September 2012.

My Review:

I have not read a book like Savage before. Not to say there was anything wrong with it I truly enjoyed it but the point-of-view was odd to me. It was the main character narrating his past.

Again nothing wrong with that and the author did it very well it was just not something I have encountered in a book before so t made me pause at first.

This book is actually really hard for me to review, I have nothing bad to say about it mind you I enjoyed it but t is one of those books that are very hard to explain in any way that makes sense to other people. Lol

In Savage we meet Christian Langaa, the Kirk family and Aiyana.

It is 1983 and we meet Chris as he has just arrived in the US from Denmark, having been sent to Florida to live with another family by his father for a year of school. And so he arrives at the Kirk’s house with Mrs. Kirk.

His father wants Chris to become a doctor and while his true passion lies in music he does as his father wishes and is going to school to become a doctor. On his first day in the US, Florida to be exact, Chris dies.

Having been out with the Krik’s daughter Heather and her friends he attacked and dragged under water by alligators. But a black leopard saves him and drags him from the water after his brush with death.

No one knows why the animal saved him (and Chris himself wonders why he came back and did not stay dead) but now that people know it is there they want to kill it and Chris’s new friend Jim is the most anxious to do so.

Chris doesn’t want to kill the animal, he feels like he owes it his life (and rightly so) but with all of this going on he has suddenly developed some kind of premonition power and is constantly bombarded with images and voices in his head.

The girl next door. She or rather her house and family are pretty prominent from the very beginning of the book—you know she is going to be a main character.

Chris felt a draw to the house next door to the Kirk’s from day one and though Heather warns him off with talk of how there is something wrong with them and that they are witched (etc. etc.) he cannot help but let his eyes stray to the house. When he finally does go next door he meets Aiyana and her family (all women) and learns that they too have powers like him.

From here the book stays pretty fast pace and we learn all about Aiyana’s family and there Native American heritage. Chris is actively trying to protect the leopard that saved his life as well but his emotional life seems to be in a constant uproar that does not cease until the end of the book.

And even with the end, it is only the beginning. We are left with a very big cliffhanger in the end. I am very much looking forward to picking up book 2 and learning what will happen next.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in a good paranormal novel. It does contain sex so, be warned and all that. It is not very graphic and does not make up a big part of the plot but it is there.
*I received a hardcover/paperback/eBook copy/ARC of this book for free to review from the author/publisher/tour site; this in no way influenced my review, all opinions are 100% honest and my own.
