Interview & #Giveaway with Katalina Leon and Amber Skyze, author's of Claimed by Dragons!

Today I have author's Katalina Leon and Amber Skyze on Full Moon Bites for their book Claimed by Dragons. I know I am very much looking forward to picking up book one! :) Also, do not miss the long excerpt and giveaway below!

Holly: Hi Amber and Katalina!  Would you tell us a little bit about yourselves?

Amber Skyze: Hello and thanks for having us here today…I’m a writer, mother, wife and owned by three large dogs.

Katalina Leon: Hello thank you for hosting us today. I’m also a wife and mother but I only have one large dog.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Amber Skyze: About twenty years ago when I was a stay at home mom. I read two books a day and was sick of what I was reading. I wanted something different and decided, hey I can do this!

Katalina Leon: A few years ago I started reading erotic snips of Ellora’s Cave books to my husband at bedtime. Then I got bolder and started writing my own customized excerpts, sometimes they were just a large post it note stuck on my husbands side of the headboard—like a to do list! lol My husband encouraged me to start writing in earnest.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters or the plot?

Amber Skyze: Usually the characters or title comes first. The plot develops as I write…yup I’m a pantser.

Katalina Leon: I have to get an idea of who the characters are and fall in love with them before I start writing. The characters have ultimate control over the plot. They tell me what to do : )

Holly: What was the inspiration for this novel?

Amber Skyze: A family trip to Salem MA. My teenager went into a shop and the owner told her to pick a stone out of a velvet bag. She instructed her to make a wish and return the stone to nature and her wish would come true. I took that and turned it into four college friends reuniting in Salem.

Holly: Where can we purchase Claimed by Dragons?

Loose Id Publishing: http://www.loose-id.com/authors/a-f/amber-skyze-katalina-leon.html
Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Claimed+By+Dragons+Amber+Skyze%2C+Katalina+Leon
ARe: https://www.allromanceebooks.com/product-claimedbydragons-946836-142.html

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2012?

Amber Skyze: I have an M/M Out to Protect coming November 13th from Loose Id and a M/F – Patience and Resolutions coming December 25th.

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

Katalina Leon: I have a novel coming soon that’s part of a new paranormal book series from Ellora’s Cave. I also have Devon’s story for book 3 or 4 in the Bag of Tricks series. I have several other WIPs almost ready to go that are aimed at different publishers. I’m hoping 2013 will be as good as this year has been.

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

Katalina Leon: All the books in the Bag Of Tricks series are stand alones. “Claimed by Dragons” is book two in the series. “The Strix” was book one. I’ll be starting Devon’s story soon. She’s going to get swept away by a ghostly sea captain. Amber is working on Becca’s story and it’s going to be good!

Holly: Why this genre(s)?

Katalina Leon: I love paranormal romance because nothing is more interesting than love and I do believe in magic!

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Katalina Leon: Don’t be crushingly critical—it’s not helpful. Be your own best friend and encourage yourself.

Holly: If you are published with a publisher, how long did it take you to get published?
Katalina: I got really lucky. I only had one rejection and my publisher later contracted the rejected book after a revision.

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

Katalina Leon: Getting absorbed in the work and being surprised by what I find inside my own head.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Amber Skyze: I hope that if you pick up a book by either Kat or I you fall in love.

Katalina: I would love to say thank you to our readers. Sharing a creative thought with another human being in a huge honor.

Holly: What is your take on editing your work (pre-edits I suppose before it gets passed to an editor)—do you hate it? Is it a strong point for you?

Katalina Leon: I’m dyslectic so self-edits are very difficult. I absolutely love and respect my editors and proofers. They work so hard. I really need their help and expertise.

Random Quickies!

Holly: When do you prefer to read?

Katalina Leon: Any chance I can get it!

Holly: Vampires or Werewolves?

Katalina Leon: Love them both.

Holly: Witches or Zombies?

Katalina Leon: Again love them both and have witches and zombies in “Sugar Roux Voodoo”

Holly: Favorite color?

Katalina Leon: Dark brownish purple or earthy orange.

Holly: Favorite movie?

Katalina Leon: “Vertigo”

Book Trailer:

Warning: M/M Explicit
Scene Set-up: In this excerpt Kypton has been living in hiding. He’s lonely and knows of no other adult Marduko males his age. He is remembering the first time he met Roarke. The OKSG is an anagram for the Order of the Knights of Saint George; a group of fanatical modern day dragon slayers.
He’d never forget the day, nearly two years ago, when he first met Roarke. Without doubt it was the most important and meaningful day of his life.

* * * * *

He was walking down a steep stairwell leading to the subway. It was as hot and crowded as any oppressive July day.
As he descended the steps an anxious tingle of electricity crackled in the air, so much so he kept turning his head to glance behind him and saw nothing but a bustling wall of humanity rushing to work or their many appointments.
A weird sense he was being stalked overwhelmed him, but the sea of bland expressions surrounding him betrayed no one. He walked a little farther into the subway, feeling the tiny hairs on the back of his neck rise and his skin pebble.
He knew without doubt someone was watching him with focused intent and moving closer, but where were they? He scanned the crowd. No one seemed to be looking his way or even vaguely interested, but he sensed with certainty he was being hunted, which wasn’t good.
It was a dangerous world for a young Marduko. Most died in their early twenties at the hands of others. Coming into the open during a first shift, choosing the wrong mate, or having a mate bond fail were all potentially deadly milestones to cross. The wisest Marduko continued to lead human lives and waited as long as possible before considering seeking out mates, which carried high risk in itself.
For the most part, Kypton had lived his adult life in solitude and kept his true self repressed. But even that was no guarantee he’d not slipped onto the Order of the Knights of Saint George’s radar.
The OKSG hunted and exterminated dragons with determined prejudice. Obliterating the Marduko from Earth was their sole focus. They employed traps, decoys, and specialized in befriending, infiltrating, and betraying entire families. With harsh tactics they spread paranoia and isolation throughout the once-formidable Marduko community. The OKSG was centuries old, international, and well funded. Contacting or meeting fellow Marduko online was out of the question. If spotted by the OKSG, one had to face his fate or break radically from his past and disappear into a new life with no further ties to loved ones.
To be a young Marduko was to face a lonely and uncertain future.
The sense of being pursued grew intense. Kypton wondered if he had been inadvertently exposed by a casual comment, a mistake on a birth certificate, even a family photograph, or worse, a loved one may have been captured and tortured by the OKSG and forced to speak his name. It had happened. Every Marduko lived with that sad possibility looming over him. Matters had gotten so bad that young, unmated Marduko were forced to completely sever contact with their families and take their chances alone, lest they call the OKSG’s attention to themselves and their loved ones and face decimation as a family.
He was twenty-nine and had some time left, but that brief time was strictly limited.
The suspicion he was being hunted escalated to an unbearable pitch. Kypton glanced over his shoulder and pushed past a stalled mob standing idle on the train platform. He couldn’t relax and hope to remain hidden in the crowd. He knew his rising sense of anxiety must show on his face. The feeling of being watched became oppressive, so he darted inside a tiled alcove to see who would walk past.
Kypton’s breath caught when a tall, dark-haired man with the elegant good looks of a Bollywood actor turned in the crowd and looked straight at him. His heart pounded at the thought that the OKSG might have sent such a dark avenging angel to end his life; the man was intensely handsome and intimidating at once. The man’s gaze locked on to him, and he rushed forward with deliberate strides that parted the crowd. When the man reached Kypton, he pushed him deeper in the shadowed alcove, pinned him hard against a wall, and covered his mouth in a passionate kiss that left him trembling in shock.
“I finally found you,” the man whispered with joy. “I knew you were somewhere in the city.” The man’s hands caressed Kypton’s face. “I sensed it. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
Kypton’s heart pounded in his throat. He hoped no one had seen the scorching hot kiss that still lingered on his lips. His senses were stunned. His cock instantly rose at the first spicy whiff of the beautiful stranger’s warm skin. He wanted to fall to his knees, wrap his arms around the man’s legs, and simply cling to him for dear life. His heart felt as if liquid blue lightning had struck his soul. The man’s presence triggered something vital buried deep inside. After that kiss every bit of his being was now fully awake. He’d never reacted so strongly to anyone, man or woman, and his thoughts wandered in confusion.
“Come with me.” The man grabbed his wrist and dragged him toward a sealed utility hallway.
A janitorial cart blocked their path. The man removed a sandwich-board sign from the cart that read CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE. He set the sign upright in front of the door, stealthily turned the handle to the steel utility entrance, and opened it. He entered a stark cement hallway, pulling Kypton behind him.
Once they were past the door the man slammed it shut and drew a steel bolt from the inside. The service hallway was deserted and dimly lit by a single flickering overhead bulb. The faint rumble of the subway was the only sound to penetrate the thick walls.
The man’s dark gaze pinned Kypton to the spot. “Watch.” The man turned his back to him and began to tear at his clothing, seeming unable to strip it from his muscular limbs quickly enough.
Kypton gasped in awe at what was happening and reminded himself to breathe as he looked at the coppery splendor of the man’s steeply tapering torso and powerful, solid butt.
The man glanced over his shoulder with a wicked gleam in his eyes. “I’ll show you mine, if you show me yours.”
Kypton was certain he’d explode if he didn’t unzip his pants and free his aching cock.
The man hunched forward and landed on the floor on all fours. Horrendous cracking noises like the merciless snapping of fragile bones followed.
Kypton shouted an astonished, “No!” He so badly wanted to believe what he was seeing but was afraid to hope.
The man shrieked a high-pitched cry at the same moment a train whistled and transformed before Kypton’s startled eyes into a gorgeous, coppery-bronze dragon with heavy wings that appeared riveted with tiny studs of iron. His head was crowned in a formidable halo of burnished spikes. He rose tall and spread his wings as wide as the narrow hallway would allow. He was breathtaking.
The bronze dragon tipped its head to the side and gazed into Kypton’s eyes.
An unspoken but crystal clear message filled Kypton’s mind.
“You’re not alone.”
A few slippery tears of joy streamed down his face as he swiftly stripped his clothing away and shifted to his sleeker, steel-blue dragon form. Kypton spread his wings as far as the confines of the hallway permitted and stepped closer to the man, rocking slightly on his curved talons.
Kypton rubbed his snout adoringly against the man’s lethally hooked snout and was thrilled to hear a pleased purr of approval rumbling deep in Roarke’s throat. His pulse raced.
The first bridge had been built. The next leg of the mate bond could now be fulfilled. He was not alone in the world, as he’d believed. There was another male Marduko, and he was so beautiful. Certainly there was a brave woman out there who would be attracted to them as a pair.
The man transformed back into his human form with a blurred swoosh of movement that was almost magical in its grace, and stood naked before him. “What’s your name?” His voice was as dark and rich as his coloring.
He tried to shift as quickly and gracefully as the man, but did so a bit awkwardly. “My name’s Kypton,” he said proudly. “I’m a northern Marduko.”
“My name’s Roarke. I’m old-stock Marduko.” A brilliant smile lit his face. “I have something for you.” He leaned down, dug through the pocket of his pants, and removed a pinkish, egg-shaped, polished stone. He turned and handed the stone to Kypton and covered Kypton’s palm in his. “I almost believed this day would never come. I’ve been waiting so long to find you and hand this to you.” He paused, his eyes filled with emotion. “Kypton, with this ancient dragon egg from the lost world, I claim you as my mate.”
Kypton stared at the glossy stone in his palm. The crystalline half of the dragon egg was an especially vibrant purple. The exact color of Marduko royalty. He’d never dreamed he’d be presented with a stone or a mate of this quality. Roarke was so desirable it was a waking dream.
Roarke took hold of Kypton’s other hand and guided it toward the thick erection standing high between his thighs. “Touch me,” he commanded. “I’ve had many lovers, but I’ve never experienced anything close to the thrill of a mate. This is all new to me.”
Roarke reached out and planted his palm on Kypton’s shoulder and with a firm but silent command urged Kypton to kneel. “Please,” he mumbled. “Your scent is driving me wild. I’m desperate for it. Suck me off.”
The breath rushed from Kypton’s lungs. They were standing in a bare utility hallway with thousands of people streaming past on the other side of the door. Anyone could interrupt at any minute. He’d been so cautious in the past with his sexuality and even more so with his dragon identity. He’d never revealed his dragon self to a lover and lived quietly in isolation. This was a first. The moment felt like dangerously crazed abandonment.
“Please.” Roarke took hold of his cock and lifted it to expose a large sac fully risen and tight. “Look at how far gone I already am. I won’t last long, and when we’re finished, I’ll take you home and fuck you any way your heart desires on my satin sheets.”
Kypton sank to his knees. He caressed the flaring sweep of Roarke’s powerful thighs. Roarke stood above him, cock in hand. He squeezed the shaft almost brutally until a shiny bead of fluid welled at the crown. “Lick it,” he demanded. “Slowly, and don’t be shy about taking all of it. I love to be sucked all the way down to my balls.”
Kypton drew a tense breath, wanting more than anything to please Roarke.
“You look startled.” Roarke stroked Kypton’s hair. “You’ve sucked cock before?”
“Of course.” Kypton’s face warmed. Marduko dragons were decidedly bisexual, enjoying male lovers until they found the perfect female mate to hopefully spend their lives with in a mated trio.
Roarke guided the head of his cock to Kypton’s waiting mouth and pressed it against his lips. “Take it.”
A beautiful Alpha had claimed him. This was it. There was no reason to hold back and nothing to fear. Kypton parted his lips and slicked the broad crown with his tongue. The first taste of Roarke’s salty flavor flooded his mouth with heart-racing pleasure. He was sucking his mate’s cock for the first time, and he wanted to commit every thrilling detail to memory so he could go back and relish it again and again.
He swallowed the crown with eager pleasure, swirling the drop of fluid away and slicked the head with wet, lazy strokes until it glistened. When Roarke was thoroughly soaked, he grasped the shaft, lifted his chin, and allowed Roarke to slide past his lips.
Roarke’s fingers lovingly toyed with the tips of Kypton’s ears and drew him a little closer. “You’ve got a sweet mouth.”
The thick shaft stretched Kypton’s lips wide and left his eyes tearing at the corners, but it was a struggle he loved. He willed himself to completely surrender as Roarke’s cock slid deeper and bumped against the back of his throat.
“I want to shoot right now and watch you swallow,” Roarke mumbled. He slowly withdrew, allowing Kypton to breathe. “I would enjoy fucking your beautiful face for hours, but I know I can’t.” Roarke cautiously rocked his hips against Kypton’s lips. “Play with them.”
Kypton cupped Roarke’s heavy sac in his hand and rolled it against his palm with slight pressure.
“More,” Roarke demanded.
He carefully tugged downward, feeling Roarke’s thighs tense.
“Slap them lightly against your palm.” Roarke’s voice was breathy.
Kypton delivered a burst of short, fast, teasing little slaps with his palm.
Roarke almost snarled. “When I get you home, I’m going to throw you on the bed, grease my cock, lock your ankles around my shoulders, and fuck your ass like there’s no tomorrow.”
It sounded heavenly. He couldn’t wait to be stretched and penetrated and have his turn at bliss. He wrapped his hand snugly around Roarke’s shaft and slid his mouth back and forth with increasing fury as the pursed ring of his lips tightened and sucked.
“Fuck!” Roarke tensed and leaned back on his heels. He pressed deep into Kypton’s mouth and shot milky cum down his throat. For a brutal but sweet moment, he possessively clutched the back of Kypton’s head as his hips continued to rock back and forth, easing every last bit of pleasure from the release.
Kypton swallowed and gulped for breath at almost the same moment and nearly choked. He was astonished by the intensity of Roarke’s climax. A thrill of pride that he’d given so much pleasure to a partner left him happy and satisfied.
Roarke gazed down at him with a dreamy, satiated expression. His grip loosened. He slid free of Kypton’s lips. “Thank you.” He grasped Kypton’s shoulders and helped him rise.
Roarke locked his arms around Kypton and drew him next to his heart. He held Kypton lovingly against his warm chest. “It’s a miracle we found each other,” he whispered. “I’m never going to let you go.”

About Amber Skyze:

From a very young age, Amber Skyze began making up stories–the only child syndrome. Telling tall tales to all her friends she never dreamed of putting words on paper. In fact if anyone asked her if she would write when she grew up, she’d have laughed.

It wasn’t until raising children and reading all those romances that she decided–hey, I can write these. HA! Easier said than done.

When not crafting hot, steamy tales, this New York transplant now resides in Rhode Island with her husband, four children (who force her to work a day job), and three dogs.

She currently writes for Ellora’s Cave, Loose Id and is self-published.
