Interview with T. Michelle Nelson, author of The Life and Death of Lily Drake!

Please help me welcome author T. Michelle Nelson to Full Moon Bites today! T. Michelle is author of The Life and Death of Lily Drake.

Holly: Hi T. Michelle! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

T. Michelle: I’d love to! I live in Ohio with my husband, son and three ill-behaved canine babies.  My son is a freshman in high school this year, so he’s keeping me pretty busy, but when I have free time I enjoy going out with friends, playing volleyball, canoeing and playing music.

Holly: Your life is an action/suspense novel; your stuck on a ship and it’s about to blow. If it was just you, you would jump overboard and get away fast, but there are a few people that were being held captive on the ship too. What do you do?

T. Michelle: Horrible, horrible answer I know… but who are the people?  Is it my son who I would undoubtedly attempt to rescue, or is it that rude guy that cut me off as I pulled into Tim Horton’s to buy donuts this morning?

Holly: Can you tell us a little bit about your book Life and Death of Lily Drake?

T. Michelle: Lily Drake is your normal single mom.  She works hard, takes care of her son, and has that overbearing friend that thinks she has to set her up on blind dates. Lily mistakes a vampire for one of these blind dates and soon finds out she is really quite awesome at slaying vampires, but dating them can be tough.

Holly: You’re out demon hunting (because you’re that kind of awesome) and you come across one about to kill a young couple. He has not seen you yet; what is your first course of action?

T. Michelle: Since I’ve already used up the “do I like these people enough to rescue them” answer, let’s just assume this time I do.  Hmmm… werewolves – silver bullets, vampires – stakes, what kills a demon?

I just googled this, and you won’t believe what all came up.  I think I’m just going to go with sneak attack decapitation.  If that doesn’t work, I’ll start quoting “The Excorist.”

Holly: Where can we purchase Life and Death of Lily Drake?

T. Michelle: Inkspell Publishing, Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Kobo among other places.

Holly: Are you working on anything at the moment?

T. Michelle: I’m currently working on the second installment of the Lily Drake series.  Lily’s always going to have some kind of drama.

Holly: How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

T. Michelle: My friend will easily attest that hanging out with me will get you written into something.  The characters I write are never exactly like someone I know, but they have similarities for sure.

Holly: What was your inspiration for this novel, or the series in general?

T. Michelle: I love the whole vampire genre, but it’s so rare to find a book where the main character is someone I can relate to.  I wanted to write a book about a heroine who is closer to my age, has a child and responsibilities.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

T. Michelle: Absolutely, first off… THANK YOU.  Thank you for reading my book and how incredibly supportive everyone has been.  Please don’t hesitate to stop by tmichellenelson.com and say hello.  I love hearing from my readers!

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

T. Michelle: Don’t give up.  Everyone gets rejection letters, everyone gets writer’s block and everyone gets discouraged. If you love it, write.  It will all come together if you have persistence and a story to tell.

Random Quickies!

Holly: When do you prefer to read?

T. Michelle: Late at night

Holly: Vampires or Werewolves?

T. Michelle: Vampires

Holly: Witches or Zombies?

T. Michelle: Zombies

Holly: Favorite color?

T. Michelle: Green

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

T. Michelle: Diet Coke

For Lily Drake, slaying vampires is easy...Dating them is the hard part.

Lily Drake is your everyday hard-working single mom…until a gorgeous vampire shows up on her front door who she mistakenly assumes is her blind date for the evening. As one crazy scenario after another unfolds, Lily finds herself falling in love with two vampires, slaying the evil ones, and being prophesied as the savior of the entire undead race.

Deciding between pizza and Chinese take-out will no longer be one of the hard decisions facing Lily Drake once she is emerged into vampire society. Humanity or immortality? That doesn't hold a candle against this question - which of the two handsome vampire cousins?

The Life and Death of Lily Drake is not your typical vampire love story. It’s a tale about the humorous mistakes a woman makes simply trying to survive not only life, but the dating scene. How will Lily manage working full-time, taking care of her young son and fighting the undead at every turn?

Lily will have to figure it out, but who better to save the world than a mom?

When T. Michelle Nelson was a little girl she told people she was going to be a skeleton when she grew up. Most people assumed she confused the question with "What do you want to be for Halloween?" She doesn't remember, but thinks it's debatable either way. With her love of all things monster and horror, it's possible she actually did want to grow up to be a skeleton.  Years later, little has changed.  T. Michelle still loves her monsters, but now she writes about them.

Originally from Western Kentucky, T. Michelle is a graduate of Murray State University.  She now resides in picturesque Mount Vernon, Ohio, which is also the setting of her novel, The Life and Death of Lily Drake. When she isn't vicariously living through her characters, T. Michelle Nelson is a not-so-mild-mannered mother, semi-decent baker and lousy volleyball player.
