Interview with Nicholas Forristal, author of the Chronicles of M Series! #FMBAuthor

Please join me today for an author interview with Nicholas Forristal! :) I reviewed his first two books a few months back, Chronicles of M (my review) and Ammit (my review). Both are a set in the Chronicles of M series that follows M, a superhero, and they are filled with dark humor and unexpected twits.

Holly: Hi Nick! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself? :)

Nicholas Forristal: I am 31 years old and currently live in Kansas City. I've been married for 6 years, but have actually been with her 10. We have a 2 year old son, Isaac. I currently work at a call center where I spend most of my day trying not to fall asleep, or coming up with ideas for books. When I'm not writing, or being a family man, I play video games, read, listen to music and drink too much caffeine. It's a pretty simple life.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Nicholas Forristal: I've been writing for fun off and on for most of my life. As far as publishing, I decided to do that when the voices in my head hadn't left me alone about these books after 5 years of ignoring them.

Holly: Can you tell us, in your own words not the book description, a little about the first book in The Chronicles of M?

Nicholas Forristal: The Chronicles of M (book 1) is a story about a normal guy who's thrown in a world of insanity that was all around him, but never realized it was there until it was smacking him in the face. The book begins with Samuel, a recently retired Hollywood agent, getting recruited by this ex-government facility that houses and handles this over-the-top a-hole named M. M's main job is to take care of any paranormal/supernatural things happenings as they occur. For the case of this book, Samuel and M are sent off to deal with this murder that doesn't sit well with the locals, so they are called in to deal with it.  It's an insane set of books that I cannot do justice in a paragraph without giving away spoilers. I'll say this: the books have magic, mystery, action, humor, zombies, demi-gods, aliens and everything between, set (for now) in modern times.

Holly: Which came first for you, the characters, the plot or something else?

Nicholas Forristal: The characters. Nuff said.

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Nicholas Forristal: Wait a second.....I remember this question from before. Are you trying to trick me? What's your game, missy? ARE YOU PLOTTING ON ME?

Holly: LOL Hmm perhaps... *evil laugh* ;)

Holly: You have recently released book two of this series called Ammit that continues where the last book left off. Can you tell us a little about it?

Nicholas Forristal: Ammit picks up right after book 1. By this point in the story, everyone knows why M is so unstable and Samuel has taken it upon himself to deal with the problem. However, things don't work out, M escapes, leaving Thomas, the head of this facility, to contact some old friends and track down M before he goes on a killing spree.   Again, hard to describe without spoilers.

Holly: Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

Nicholas Forristal: I usually have a series of points I want to make sure I cover in the book and several ideas on how I want to get there, but I don't usually go further than that unless it gets messy. In book 2, there's this 3 chapter section that has 2 storylines running that intersect each other at different points and then go off on giant tangents...eventually meshing together once again. THAT I had to spend a good chunk of time making sure was correct.   Otherwise, I pretty much come up with a scenario and then I dictate the direction of the scenario on how the characters would react. It's only the major points that ever have a chance of sending the story a specific direction. Even then, not so much.

Holly: What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?

Nicholas Forristal: Writing is the fun and easy part. It's all the marketing/advertising that's difficult.

Holly: I know from the ending of the last book there is going to be a book three. Do you have any ideas of a release date yet? Are you perhaps working on book three now?

Nicholas Forristal: I am working on book 3 now, which is planned as the end of the first trilogy. That being said, I'm not giving a release date because there's a lot of things I'd like to clear up with this book. If you read book 2, you'll know exactly what the next trilogy is about and what ends the first one.

Holly: Do you have a set number of books planned for The Chronicles of M?

Nicholas Forristal: The working number is 10 books, but that's saying I don't come up with more ideas along the way. Trust me, I love these characters. I will continue to write about them as long as I have GOOD ideas to keep it fresh and fun.

Holly: Are there any plans for another book/series in the future apart from The Chronicles of M?

Nicholas Forristal: I've had a few ideas I've been batting around that have started to make it to rough ideas on paper. One such idea was for a grindhouse type of horror movie (something between Machete and Texas Chainsaw Massacre), that I've started to write. There are other things, but that one is the closest to being properly done thus far.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Nicholas Forristal: Thanks for all the support and I hope I don't let you down. Keep hunting me down on twitter and facebook, I enjoy the conversations.  :D

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Nicholas Forristal: Stay away from vanity publishers. Look up who you are going to work with, research them. Make sure you aren't shaking hands with Satan. Everyone needs a good editor (I don't care how great you think you are). Once you find one, hold on to them as long as you can.

I've been writing silliness for as long as I can remember. From short stories for elementary state exams to plot line for video games.
