Only when you let go can you learn to live.
Between the death of her mother and pushing through law school without her best friend, it's been a tough year for Becca. Needing a break from
Boston, she moves to a
tiny coastal North Carolina town
for a relaxing summer. After bumping heads repeatedly with a local cop, she
realizes her summer will be anything but quiet.
Three years after a career ending injury ruins his chance to play Major League Baseball, Gavin has a distrust of northerners and lately girls in general. He wants nothing to do with a girl who is only in town for the summer.
When the two give in to their impossible attraction, they realize that they may just have found the key to freeing themselves from the ghosts of their pasts.
*New Adult Contemporary Romance - contains sexual situations*
First off I have to say this is a series I would read in order mostly because the characters are so interweaved. For example—Becca is Molly’s (our main character from Derailed) best friend and we first meet Gavin when he is interested in going out with Molly.
Though Gavin was not for Molly I really loved him and was thrilled to learn he was going to have his own book.
Veer jumps right back into Clayton Falls with Gavin and Becca meeting for the first time and right there we learn something very important about Becca—she has been hurt by something in the past that left its mark on her. She is constantly making sure things are safe and doesn’t trust Gavin at all, even when he lets her know he is a cop and a friend of Molly’s.
As with Becca we also learn an important part of Gavin’s past as well that makes a big impact on his relationship with Becca and how he treats her at first.
Both Becca and he have a lot of problems that are in the way of a relationship together and steer clear of each other but it is soon pretty obvious that they both are very into each other and one thing leads to another.
In the end it is Becca I believe who has the most to overcome that hinges on the relationship making it or not. Gavin realizes that he wants Becca in his life even knowing she is only staying for the summer; he bevies they can make it work until she is done with law school. But Becca is scared and thinks things are gong too fast.
Overall I liked Veer, Becca and Gavn were great characters and each had their own past, flaws and problems they had to overcome to make the relationship work. We get both of their POV’s but the switching of points of view is by chapter so it is very easy to follow.
I would recommend Veer to anyone who had read Derailed and the series to anyone who is looking for a good New Adult Contemporary Romance read.
