Interview with Rebecca Graf, author of Deep Connections! #FMBAuthor

Holly: Hi Rebecca! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself? :)

Rebecca Graf: I’m a transplanted Southern girl living in Wisconsin with my husband and three children. I got my degree in accounting and worked in the field for 20 years. Now I’m going back to school to get my history and English degree. My desire is to teach and write.

Holly: What do you do when you are not writing?

Rebecca Graf: I read and run a couple of online businesses including a publishing company, Silver Tongue Press. When I’m not doing this, I’m running children to practice, games, and other events. Sleep becomes very treasured after a while.

Holly: Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

Rebecca Graf: I can’t write an outline. I get frustrated when I plan and plans don’t go that way for me which is most of the time in life. So, I just write. If I have an idea of where I want a story to go, I note it. I let the story direct me.

Holly: I know authors get asked this a lot but do you have any advice that you would give to aspiring writers?

Rebecca Graf: They need to ignore everyone and just write. Don’t listen to people saying that you have to do this or that. Just write. There is no set way to write. There is no perfect book. Everyone is not going to like your book. You need to write because you want to and not to please anyone.

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2013?

Rebecca Graf: Oh, yes. The sequel to Deep Connections, Dark connections, is coming out. Along with that is Trust Me which is a novella. I hope to get the final in the Connections trilogy done, but we’ll see. I have to get Trust Me out or a friend might put a contract out on me. :)

Holly: Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

Rebecca Graf: I already have 2 children’s book written. I have a comedy in the works that might come out this year. I like to write whatever interests me.

Holly: Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

Rebecca Graf: This is the first in a trilogy. When you read it, you’ll know it has to have a sequel as it ends in a big cliffhanger. I love to do that whenever I can even at the end of chapters.

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

Rebecca Graf: Dos:
1.      Take every opportunity to write.
2.      Edit many times.
3.      Push your writing into new areas.

Don’ts:
1.      Don’t ignore your muse.
2.      Don’t be afraid to delete scenes or change them.
3.      Don’t think you are better or worse than any other writer.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Rebecca Graf: Yes, thank you. I would like to say thank you to all those that are willing to give new writers a chance and the encouragement to improve and explore their craft. It is because of encouragement that even tried to write.

Holly: Is there a genre that you love to read, and would like to write, but just cannot?

Rebecca Graf: Fantasy. I’m going to try, but there are always so many new creatures and places that I’m afraid I’d get them all mixed up. One day, I’ll try. We’ll see.

Format: Ebook | Paperback
Length: 298 pages

Book Description:

Just as love appears, so does the darkness. With her heart reaching out for one man, Brenna finds herself the target of an unknown stalker. Who is he? What does he want? How far will he go for her? Death is an option. Brenna discovers more than she bargained for and learns that the stalker will kill for her. It all comes down to decisions, and no matter what she chooses it will demand sacrifice and someone's blood.

Brenna’s eyes fluttered open to see a blur of trees flying by.  Her head pounded and her stomach began to roll from the pain she felt and the fast-changing scenery.  A careful look at her surroundings told her she was in some older model car.  She inhaled deeply to calm herself, but confusion set in as her senses were assaulted by unfamiliar smells.  Her eyes widened in fright as terrifying memories began to flood her mind.  Turning slowly, afraid of what she might see, she gazed at the man behind the wheel of the speeding car.  She shivered when she saw he was just as repulsive as she remembered.  Who was he and what did he want with her?

Sensing her stare, a pair of dark, soulless eyes turned towards her.  A smile appeared on his unkempt face.  “Well, well, sleeping beauty awakes.”  Brenna’s stomach rolled again as she felt his eyes slide hungrily over her body.  She pushed up against the door in an effort to put as much distance between the two of them as she could, but he shook his head in disapproval.  “No need to be  dramatic.”  He turned his attention back to the road.  “We both know you won’t jump out.”

Rebecca Graf lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with her husband and three children. She worked as an accountant for 20 years before taking the plunge and write online for various sites and companies. Now she runs a publishing company, Silver Tongue Press, and writes full time while trying to keep up with all the activities of her children.
