Book Description:

Trouble comes in deceptive packages

Still recovering from an accident that left him emotionally and physically battered, Jon's goal is to lead a simple life, free of complications and attachments. His new roommate—a happy-go-lucky bookworm—seems to fit into his plans fine at first. He doesn't find out till later that Leander's also a psychic, specializing in finding lost pets. Jon's a skeptic when it comes to the supernatural, so he's convinced Leander's a nut job.

Jon's beliefs are challenged when Leander has to track down a missing teenager and he ropes Jon into assisting him. Soon the two of them are knee-deep in a decades-old murder case. The hills and valleys of the City of Angels hold many buried secrets, and Leander has a knack for finding them.

Jon's hopes for a trouble-free life go out the window as he's drawn deeper into Leander's psychic sleuthing. Digging into the past poses many dangers, but the biggest risk Jon faces is putting his bruised heart on the line.

Warning: Men loving men, skeletons, and an unlucky Chihuahua.

I really enjoyed Dead in L.A. by Lou Harper. It is the first two books in her L.A. Paranormal series (I am not sure if there are going to be more).

When I first started reading I was not so sure I was going to like it, it was kind of slow and it took me a while to warm up to Jon. He was pretty blunt, indifferent, I suppose. He has had a hard year; his wife died, he is going back to collage and all he wants is a normal, boring life.

Too bad his new roommate, Lea, turns out to be a physic.

Short, slight of build with a head full of shocking blonde hair and a love of books, Jon thinks
he has found the perfect bookish roommate that will not be throwing parties, bothering him or complicating his new boring life.

Boy was he wrong. From the start you can see him warning up to Lea, taking care of him in minute ways that slowly grow—especially after one drunken night of sexual activates between the two.

Book one takes us on the journey of their meeting, and Lea’s first case with the police. When a police officer finds out what he can do he gets Lea to help him with a cold case that everyone has given up on. Being physic comes with draw back though and the case leaves Lea with feeling of anger, and sadness that he cannot do anything more.

Book two we have an actual relationship between Lea and Jon, where as in the first book they were only friends by the end. We also learn a lot more about Jon’s past when an old boyfriend shows up in L.A. with his new partner.

Dead in L.A.  was different, and after I warmed up to Jon and began to understand him a little more I really enjoyed it! It actually kind of reminds me of the show, Cold Case. Because that seems to be the direction Lea’s human cases are taking (he also finds lost things, pets and stuff).

There was not really any erotica though there were two or three sex scenes (or scenes where they are doing something sexual) I think, they were not very graphic.

Overall I really enjoyed Dead in L.A. and hope here is going to be more books in this series. Jon and Lea were really just getting into their relationship and I’d love to read more as it progresses.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good male/male contemporary romance with some mystery and paranormal.

4 Moons!
