Interview with April Canavan, author of Path to the Key!

I'd like to welcome April Canavan to Full Moon Bites today!! Read on below for our interview and to find out more about Path to the Key (Destruction of Magic #1)!

Holly: Would you tell us a little bit about yourself April?

April: Let’s see. I believe in the zombie apocalypse. I read every day if I can, and I absolutely love to eat junk food while binge watching tv.

Holly: Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

April: It’s kind of a mix. I have a bunch of notes, and a timeline that I reference. I also keep a running list of things that need to happen in the story I’m telling, but sometimes I just feel like I have to sit back and write whatever the characters want.

Holly: Is there an author or book that influenced you or your writing growing up?

April: For a second I defaulted to the reading list and almost started spouting those off. My writing influences would have to come from Kurt Vonnegut, and probably a little bit of Terry Goodkind.

Holly: Can you tell us, in your own words not the book description, a little about Path to the Key?

April: Sarah is a mom, plain and simple. And when people ask me about it I like to ask them: If you were a parent, would there be anything you wouldn’t do to protect your child? Sure, she’s a vampire, but that’s just a part of who she is. In a world where everything we’ve only ever thought of as fairytales is actually real, she has to fight for herself AND her child. While she’s doing that, she has to figure out where she stands on falling for a vampire.

Holly: Where can we purchase Path to the Key?

April: Path to the Key is on Amazon in both Ebook and paperback formats. It’s also free on Kindle Unlimited. Here’s a link:

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2017?

April: Yes, actually. I’m releasing a romantic suspense this summer, and Path to the Key’s sequel is set to be released by Halloween.

Holly: How much of you, or people you know, make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

April: I feel like there can be a lot of characteristics I borrow from people I know. Attitudes, or family situations. It just becomes a part of the process, to absorb those qualities.

Holly: This is the first book of the Destruction of Magic series, do you have a release date for book two or is it still in the works?

April: I mentioned it above, but October 30 is the estimated date of release! I haven’t named it yet though, naming the books is so hard.

Holly: What is the easiest part of writing in your opinion?

April: I’d have to say coming up with a storyline is the easiest for me. I have stacks of ideas that need to be fleshed out.

Holly: Can you tell us a few do’s and don’ts for aspiring authors?

April: I’d say DON’T give up. You never know when success will happen, but you have to put yourself out there.

DO give yourself a break, or a chance to breathe.

DON’T think you have to be perfect out the door.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

April: The people who have picked up path to the Key have been amazing. I’ve gotten private messages telling me they loved it and asking for more. Thank you for being the greatest.

Holly: Pepsi or Coke?

April: Coke

Holly: Do you read more than you write?

April: Yes, Definitely.

Holly: Favorite movie?

April: It changes all the time, but currently I’m on a kid’s movie kick and I can’t get enough of “The Book of Life.”

Holly: Hardback/Paperback or eReader?

April: eReader in reality, but I collect physical books and read them too.

Holly: Favorite color?

April: Red

Holly: Do you own a laptop or desktop computer?

April: Both actually. Desktop for writing at home, and the laptop for when I’m on the go or when I really feel like taking a risk and writing in the bath.

Holly: Thank you so much for being here with us today, April! Read on below to find out more about Path to the Key!!

Book: Path to the Key
Series: Destruction of Magic #1
Author: April Canavan
Genre: Paranormal,
Purchase: Amazon

Magic is fading throughout the world and the supernatural realms can feel the strain growing daily, but Sarah doesn’t care about any of that. She cares about protecting her son from her vampiric ex-husband who is obsessed with gaining power. She’ll stop at nothing to ensure that Alex doesn’t get his hands on Jackson, even if it means welcoming more vampires and other supernatural beings into her life.

Their journey takes her across the country, seeking the help of a witch that has invaded her son’s dreams. A vampire named Zander threatens to bring all of her carefully constructed walls crashing down. She’ll break every rule and every preconceived notion they have about her, as long as she can save her son and give him the future that was stolen from her.

Sarah’s path connects to the very battle that she tries to avoid, and when she embraces not only her growing power, but also her destiny- she might be able to change the tides of fate.

April spends her time wandering through the woods chasing after a precocious child, trying to keep the voices of her characters in check as they tell their stories. Sometimes, though, those characters need to be heard. That's when you can find April curled up into a ball surrounded by snacks and playlists with her favorite music, fleshing out the stories in her mind's eye. She is a member of the Maine Romance Writers. You can find her on Facebook and Twitter.
