The price of survival…
Gabriel Miller swept into my life like a storm. He tore down my father with cold retribution, leaving him penniless in a hospital bed. I quit my private all-girl’s college to take care of the only family I have left.
There’s one way to save our house, one thing I have left of value.
A forbidden auction…
Gabriel appears at every turn. He seems to take pleasure in watching me fall. Other times he’s the only kindness in a brutal underworld.
Except he's playing a deeper game than I know. Every move brings us together, every secret rips us apart. And when the final piece is played, only one of us can be left standing.
THE PAWN is a full-length contemporary novel from New York Times bestselling author Skye Warren about revenge and seduction in the game of love.
The Pawn started off slow for me but by chapter two I was hooked! The cliffhanger. My goodness, I cannot believe it ended like that.
Gabriel had my attention from the first moment he is introduced into the book. He is do mysterious, dangerous and such an Alpha male. I'm not even going to lie I was practically yelling for him to make a move on Avery.
Avery felt was very sheltered and young. Too sheltered honestly, but I guess that's what makes the book do much better. Now she has practically been tossed to the wolves and it'd time yo do what she has to do to take care of her father or just completely fall apart.
She doesn't fall apart. Far from it.
Author Skye Warren is a amazing writer. Besides the slow start, which I understand we needed some background, the book moved along seamlessly. The way she built up the tension and the mystery that is Gabriel was just wonderful. The whole time there is a constant edge, as if danger or violence is just a page away.
The Pawn is absolutely riveting. I couldn't make myself but it down until the end, an ending that left me on the edge of my seating wanting book two NOW.
