Interview & #Giveaway: Corruption of the Heart by Jessica Manson

Hi! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I am originally from Mississippi but moved to Maine in 2014 where I live with my husband and three children ages 2, 8, 11. I started out writing poetry when I was 10 and since then I have had several poems published. Some in the Poetry Society books and some on the internet. I was also awarded the Publisher’s Choice Award for my poem A Lost Soul. Corruption of the Heart is my debut book.

What do you do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing, I am doing schoolwork, taking care of my three kids or working. I am going to school to get my Bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing.

Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

Usually I will jot down the basic idea I have for the book but that’s about it.

Is there an author or book that influenced you or your writing in any way growing up or as an adult?

Edgar Allen Poe influenced me the most. I read his poem Annabel Lee when I was ten years old and from that moment I knew I wanted to be a writer. I started out writing poems. After pages and pages of poems I decided I wanted to write more. I had so many ideas floating around in my head that I knew would make great stories. So, I decided to write books. I still dabble in poetry which can be seen in some of the spells in this book.

Where can we purchase this book?

Corruption of the Heart can be purchased on Amazon, Kobo, Barnes and Nobel, Xlibris.com, and Corruptionoftheheart.com

Can we expect more novels from you in 2017?

I am in the process of publishing book 2 should be out by July 2017. Also book 3 will be published hopefully around October of 2017.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

I am in the process of writing the fourth and final book to the Corruption of the Heart series. I have also started another paranormal romance series that I am very excited about.

Are you reading anything interesting at the moment? If so, what is it?

Right now I am reading The Girl In Between series by Laekan Zea Kemp.

How much of you or people you know do you think make it into the characters in your novel(s)?

A lot of myself go into my books. There are things that Lilith experiences in this book that I myself have went through. Lilith is a self-harmer. I too was a self-harmer so the times in the book that she goes through this it is based off of my own experience with it. Granted I haven’t self-harmed in five years it is still a struggle daily. Lilith lost her parents, I lost my mom. A lot of the emotions in this book are things that I have faced myself.

Do you think you will have a follow up book to this novel or is it just a stand-alone novel?

This is going to be a complete series with four books total. I have already completed books 2 and 3 and am in the process of writing book 4.

Why this genre(s)?

Why not? This genre lets you believe in the things that aren’t real. It lets you escape reality and live in a fantasy world for a little bit. You can pretend like you are the characters and live a very fascinating life. I love writing this genre because I can escape to a world all of my own when I am writing.

What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?

The ending. Writing the ending is the hardest part because you don’t want the story to end. You don’t want to say goodbye to the characters. You want the story to go on forever.

Can you tell us some of your latest news?

Where do you see yourself at in five years—writing wise?

In five years I hope to be a well-known author whose books make it to film. I have big dreams.

Is there a genre that you love to read, and would like to write, but just cannot?

I would love to be able to write romance. I have tried but it always seems to end up being paranormal. I hope that one day I will be able to write romance like Author K. Langston.

If you could live in the world you have created, would you? If no, why not?

Absolutely. I would love to live in a world like the ones I write or read about. To live in a world where there is so much excitement and fantasy would be amazing.

What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why?

Dream without fear. Write without limits. I don’t know who wrote it but I love this quote because if you want to accomplish your dreams you have to do so without fear. And don’t be scared to write what you want. Don’t censor yourself.
