Interview & #Giveaway: Grunt by Kailee Reese Samuels @KRSamuels

Read on below for an interview with author Kailee Reese Samuels, and do not miss the giveaway below! :)

Holly: Hi! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Kailee Reese Samuels: I am Kailee Reese Samuels, the mother of Juliet, Kinky Sex Magic, The Initiation, Tea for Two, Grunt and the upcoming, Hopechest and Fluff. Texas born. Sexy trucks, badass mofo alphas, hot ink, love music, long nails, and good football. Brisket is birthright, y'all. And sometimes, I write kink. XO

Holly: What do you do when you are not writing?

Kailee Reese Samuels: I have a set minimum amount of words that I try and meet every day. I enjoy connecting with readers and try and make time for that as well. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my three boys, gardening, and traveling.

Holly: Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

Kailee Reese Samuels: I always start with a point A and point Z, I don’t always know the middle until I get into the story. The characters do a lot of the guiding. It’s important to remember that when authors are writing a novel, they are also the first person to read it. I am just as excited as the fangirls to see what happens.
Holly: I know authors get asked this a lot but do you have any advice that you would give to aspiring writers?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Keep writing and moving forward. It’s easy especially when you first start to get negative. Not only are there reviews to deal with, but a hundred things you have likely never done before getting barreled at you. The whole thing can be very daunting. Compartmentalize the reviews, embracing the ones that truly mean something to you and learning from the others. Don’t dwell on a bad review or trolls. With all the other new things, take it slow, one step at a time. And have fun! Enjoy the journey! If you aren’t having fun, what’s the point?

Holly: When did you realize that you would like to write and publish a book?

Kailee Reese Samuels: I was about 4 when I knew I wanted to spend my life playing with words. I always thought I would end up being a poet. I didn’t decide to write something worth publishing until 2013.

Holly: Can you tell us, in your own words not the book description, a little about your book?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Grunt is the third book in The SOS Series (The Story of Salvatore). They are independent, yet interconnected chapters of his past. They are set five years prior to Juliet’s timeframe, so you really get to see his growth arch from boy to man. Grunt deals with his childhood and finding his truth.

Holly: Can we expect more novels from you in 2017?

Kailee Reese Samuels: The last book in the SOS series, Hopechest, releases July 4. I also have Fluff, a standalone, happily ever after with no cliffhanger. The next book in The Juliet Collection will release on Halloween. And I have a few other projects in the works as well as a couple of surprises in my bag of tricks.

Holly: If you could live in the world you have created, would you? If no, why not?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Absolutely! Sugargrove, Texas is an utterly fascinating place with a full cast of colorful characters. I don’t think it would ever get boring!

Holly: What is your favorite part of writing?

Kailee Reese Samuels: The moment when you are flying with the words. You aren’t thinking about word counts, or covers, or blurbs. It’s a lot like playing an instrument – the more you practice, the easier it is to tap into the writer voice. After a few minutes of warm up, you can find the sacred place when you are just the messenger. Pure writing gold for an author.

Holly: Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You took a chance on me and I want all of my readers to know that I value the time you give me by reading my books. Although I am a writer, I am ultimately an artist who entertains. I want readers to find a dependable escape within my words. I want them to enjoy the ride and come back for more.

Random Quickies!

Holly: Pepsi or coke?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Coke

Holly: Favorite kind of chocolate?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Dark

Holly: Cats or dogs?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Neither

Holly: Do you own a laptop or desktop computer?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Laptop

Holly: If a laptop, what kind do you own and would you recommend it to other authors?

Kailee Reese Samuels: Mac Book Air and yes.

Thank you for the interview!
Have a great day!

Six days.
No one thought I could last
Here in the cell—I now call home
They didn’t know I grew up in the prison of my crime family’s dream.

Six weeks.
No one thought I could withstand
The loss, the drugs, the torture
They didn’t know how much I would enjoy their game.

Six months.
No one thought I could survive
Their puppet and prey—but I like to play—Hard.
And I don’t lose.

They picked the wrong guy. Their so-called ‘grunt’ would fight to get home and take revenge. I vowed to come back—for her—for Kaci. But everything changed.
My maniacal mind wrapped with a pretty mug, I am an unforgiving opponent, tough—tougher than they ever imagined.
And I will never – ever – break.

Author Bio:
Embracing diversity. Coffee addict. Mango lover. Blueberry fetishist. Sweet peach tea crazy. Red wine devout. Whiskey deviant. Tattooed & pierced. Loves shoes. Collects rosaries. Fanatical organizer/cleaner/list-maker. Never sleeps. Hermit and recluse.
KAILEE REESE SAMUELS has been spinning tales since she can remember. Her books are contemporary fiction with a no-holds-barred attitude. She adores listening to her characters ramble and putting them into situations that push the boundaries.
Creativity is the way to change.
