Guest Post & #Giveaway: Spring by Lele Iturrioz

Please welcome author Lele Iturrioz to Full Moon Bites on why book covers are so important. Also read on below for more info about her novel Spring and a GIVEAWAY!

Book covers are always a sensitive topic to talk about because taste is objective and changes constantly.
There is the famous saying… “Never judge a book by its cover” (and we shouldn’t judge them), but in a way, we all do. Me included. After all, we are visual beings.

I think book covers are really important because it can send us the wrong message and confuse us into losing a great book. For example, one of my favorite authors (and New York Times best seller) has the simplest and weirdest looking covers I have ever seen but her stories are insanely great! Saying that, I admit it took me a few months to give the book a chance since every time I looked at it, the cover reminded me of the boring books I had to forcefully read back when I was in high school. Thanks to the odd choice of cover, I wasn’t really feeling the magic inside the book or the excitement to pick it up and read it. (I’m so glad I did! She is absolutely incredible.)

In my opinion, I think there is something special with walking around a book store and see a colorful, magical, scary or intriguing cover that makes you stop and grab it. A cover that by some reason, it speaks to you and gives you the same feeling the book will give you once you read it. Something that gets you excited to get home and start reading it.
Unless the book you want to buy was previously recommended to you, book covers are the first contact a book will have with the readers. It is what makes them pick it up out of the others and read the synopsis.
That is why, when I talked with the both talented Ibet Sakoda and Joanna Haber (designer and illustrator of the Seasons Within series) more than anything, I was hoping that we all found a way to give the reader a feeling of knowing what to expect from the story just by looking at the cover.

Therefore, I don’t think covers need to be pretty or out of this world, it just needs to speak to the readers.

Gaia finally knows who she is and what she’s meant to do. It’s only been a few weeks since the earth element woke in her. Now that she’s embracing her role as Mother Nature, she must journey with her group of power-wielding friends in a race against time to get back home before Azazel reaches them.

With the awakening of a brand new element, her true past with Edan, a dangerous decision that could change the very essence of who she is, and a traitor among her group, the broken road back to Terra will be a test of strength.

After all, even if Gaia doesn’t know it, war is closer than she thinks.
