Interview with Tim Majka, author of Prey @tmajic52

Hi! Would you tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Tim Majka. I am a lifelong resident of a small city along the shores of Lake Erie in Western New York. By day I am a mild-mannered high school history teacher, tasked with molding the minds of America’s youth. By night, I like to slip into fantastical worlds of my own creation and warp the minds of everybody else. If it weren’t for the loving support of my wife Bridget and our two, handsome, intelligent, and talented (I’ll let you figure out who they take after) college age sons, I would never have gotten this far (Honestly, they probably enjoyed the peace and quiet while I was off on my own, writing).

Do you have anything you would like to say to your readers?

Three things come to mind: Thank you, be patient, and you ain’t seen nothin’ yet!

What do you do when you are not writing?

When I am not writing or teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. We all watch our beloved Buffalo Bills and Sabres, along with a passion for college football. My wife and I like to camp and roam the countryside looking for images that pop out for her to photograph or antique stores to get lost in. With my boys it is professional wrestling and comic books. I infected them with the comic collecting bug at an early age and they returned the favor by re-kindling my love of pro wrestling (Yes, we know it’s not real, but those guys are great athletes, and the ones who have that showmanship gene really put on a great performance).

Do you write an outline before starting a book or just write?

I am an outline person, that’s not to say I don’t deviate from it as I go along, but I need a rough roadmap to keep me on target. When I started writing PREY, I didn’t know I was an outline person. It was supposed to be a short story. I got 6000 words in and realized I hadn’t touched on most of what I wanted to say, so I stopped at that point and wrote an outline (which ended up being 3500 words on its own). So, with book two, I started with an outline.

Where can we purchase this book?

The book can be purchased at the following links:

or if you are near me at any time, I always have a copy I am willing to autograph and sell. J

Can we expect more novels from you in 2017/2018?

Readers can expect the final two books of the Blood of the Ancients series by the end of 2018 and will hopefully see my name on a few other projects I am toying with.

Are you working on anything at the moment?

I am currently writing the follow-up books to my debut novel PREY.

Are you reading anything interesting at the moment? If so, what is it?

I am reading Dogs of War (for the 2nd time), the ninth book in Jonathan Maberry’s Joe Ledger series. I was first turned on to Mr. Maberry by a colleague who gave me Ghost Road Blues (Book 1 of the Pine Deep trilogy) to read, there was no turning back after that.

Do you think you may ever go into another genre?

I have ideas for stories in the sci-fi/superhero genre, a noir detective story, a children’s chapter book, and a romance murder/mystery. So, yes, I do have plans for writing in multiple genres.

Also, I would LOVE the opportunity to write a comic book.

What is the hardest part of writing in your opinion?

The hardest part of writing is not getting too down on yourself when the words don’t seem to be flowing like you want them to. It is easy give up, perseverance is the key.

If you are published with a publisher, how long did it take you to get published?

It took two years and close to 40 rejections before Devil Dog Press contacted me with a book deal. Then I worked for nine months with the best editor in the world, Rob M. Miller, who helped shape PREY into what it is today. So, to combine this with another question, to aspiring writers: keep writing, and keep sending your work out there.

Do you have any upcoming appearances that you would like to share with us?

I will be appearing in my classroom (5 shows daily), 5 days a week for the next 32 weeks (wait, that’s not what you meant is it…)

About the Author:

I spend most of my time molding the minds of America’s youth teaching high school social studies, along the shores of Lake Erie, in my hometown. I reside there with my loving and supportive family that includes my best friend and bride, Bridget, two wonderful sons most people could only dream of, Jacob and Alex, and two rescue cats: Stanley and Corky.

My reading interests cover a wide range genres. Suspense, mystery, thriller, action, adventure, sci-fi, historical, and noir. My goal is to explore as many of these as I can in my career as an author.

I am a self-professed pop-culture geek, and wear that label proudly. My sons and I have a comic book collection that is in excess of 5000 books. And we NEVER miss an opening night for any of the super-hero movies.

Living in Western New York I am conditioned to be a fan of both the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. I have dealt with much heartbreak over the years, but hold out hope that my teams will bring home those elusive championships someday.
